Gallipoli Expedition Defender Strategy and Recap Timing
As defenders, you do not need a clean wipe of every attack. You need to drain attacker Momentum and keep Headquarters from being secured long enough that they stall. The Support Objective is the swing point most teams lose on. Recapture it at the right time or attackers get a forward spawn, support weapons, and extra Momentum.
Core problem: As defenders in Expedition, you do not need a clean wipe of every attack. You need to drain attacker Momentum and keep Headquarters from being secured (built out or bombed) long enough that they stall. The Support Objective is the swing point most teams lose on. Recapture it at the right time or attackers get a forward spawn, support weapons, and extra Momentum.
1What You Are Actually Defending
2Step-by-Step Defender Loop
-
1
Identify which point is HQ this sector.
Locations randomize between two spots. Call it immediately. Everyone who is not on a recap squad stays on HQ approaches.
-
2
Hold HQ first, do not chase every fight.
Stay on the high ground or trench lines covering the HQ build sites. One-shot rifle kills and HMG lanes matter more than dying on a hero push. Delay is a win condition.
-
3
Kill builders and bomb planters on sight.
Engineers on the HQ are the real threat. Construction only happens while they hold the point. Progress does not reverse, but they cannot finish if you contest. Disarm the bomb the moment the prompt appears. Multiple players on one structure speeds attacker builds, break that group.
-
4
Time the Support recap (see below).
-
5
Fortify after you stabilize, not during the first wave.
Clear the point, then build. Sandbags on approaches and flanks, wire into HMG and rifle kill zones. Engineers: Frontline Builder kit. Multiple sappers on one piece finishes it faster.
-
6
Use pre-placed defender beacons and static guns.
Defender squad beacons are already at key spots. Machine-gun squads lock an approach. Rest rifles on cover (any parapet or prone rest works). Stay low. Standing runs get you deleted.
-
7
If they dump Momentum and hit Foothold, stay on HQ.
This is their last throw. Do not overextend for Support unless they are spawning on it. Hold until the clock or Foothold dies.
3Support Recap Timing (The Decision Most Teams Get Wrong)
- Recap Support when attackers are mid-build or mid-plant on HQ and you can peel 4-8 players without collapsing HQ.
- Recap Support when they have already planted a forward spawn or mortar on Support and are feeding from it.
- Recap Support when your Momentum drain is stalling because they keep respawning 20 seconds from HQ.
4Key Decision Points
| Situation | Choice |
|---|---|
| HQ contested, Support just flipped | Peel a small recap group only if HQ still has a screen. HQ secure = sector lost. |
| Attackers building 3 structures | Prioritize interrupting builders over farm kills in no-man's-land. |
| Bomb planted | Disarm first. Kills second. |
| Support has mortar and spawn, HQ is stable | Recap Support now. That spawn is what keeps their Momentum alive. |
| Your team is dying 1-for-1 on open ground | Fall back to prepared positions. Trades favor attackers if they still hold time. |
5Common Mistakes
- Treating Support like a second HQ and abandoning the real HQ to sit on it.
- Letting two engineers finish structures because everyone is farming rifle kills 80m off-point.
- Ignoring the bomb prompt.
- Building wire and sandbags before the first wave is cleared. You die on the shovel.
- Running upright between trenches.
- Never rotating back after a Support recap. Attackers just retake HQ while you celebrate the side point.
