Marvel Rivals
Storm Build Guide - Season 3
Storm underperforms when played like a high-altitude duelist. The community consensus: stay low, run Thunder aura 80% of the time, and treat her as a mobile DPS-strategist who amplifies her team.

Core Concept: Why Storm Gets Wasted at High Altitude
The #1 Mistake
Most Storm players fly as high as possible. This wastes her Thunder aura on teammates who are out of range, makes piercing shots harder to land, and removes you from cover - all while contributing less damage than staying low would.
Storm's value is her team aura boosting ally damage combined with piercing Wind Blades through enemy clumps. Both require staying at or near your team's level. Think of her as a mobile backline DPS that happens to float, not a dedicated air unit.
Key Abilities Reference
Primary
Wind Blade
Piercing projectile - travels through multiple enemies. Lead targets by one crosshair width for moving enemies. Fire through chokes and grouped tanks/supports for multi-hit value.
Secondary
Lightning Bolt
Hitscan finisher. Save for enemies at 30-35% HP - duelists and divers especially. Can animation cancel into primary if needed. Do not spam it as a poke tool.
Shift
Weather Control (Aura Switch)
Swaps between Thunder (damage boost) and Tornado (speed boost) aura. Rebind and practice quick switching. Default to Thunder - switch to Tornado only for specific situations.
Ability
Goddess Boost / Lightning Strikes
Burst damage amplifier. Pop when enemies dive your backline or clump up - excellent counter-dive tool. Combine with damage aura for maximum team impact.
Mobility
Lightning Rush
Short repositioning dash with decent range and no falloff. Use frequently for short hops to cover, chasing, or breaking line of sight. Not just an escape - use it proactively.
Ultimate
Omega Hurricane
Deploy from behind the enemy team or a safe flank spot, then fly toward your team during cast (you are fast and immune). Follow up immediately with boosted lightning or primary to clean up stragglers. Coordinate with team ults - avoid triggering enemy support ults.
How to Play Storm Step by Step
-
1Default to Thunder Aura - Switch Instantly at Match StartAs soon as you spawn, confirm Thunder (damage) aura is active. This should be your state for roughly 80-90% of the match. Many players forget and run Speed aura all game - missing the core of her value.
-
2Stay Low - Hover at Backline or Center of Your TeamPosition just above or level with your tanks and supports. This maximizes aura coverage and makes Wind Blade piercing far more reliable through enemy formations. High altitude = aura on nobody + harder shots + easy to punish. Only go higher briefly for specific flanks, then drop back immediately.
-
3Build Ult Charge with Consistent Piercing PrimaryFire Wind Blades through chokes and grouped enemies constantly. Lead moving targets by one crosshair width. This is how you build ult while supporting team damage simultaneously. Save Lightning Bolt as an execute for targets below 35% - do not use it as a poke tool.
-
4Use Tornado Aura Only for These SituationsSwitch to Tornado (Speed) when: escaping an enemy ult, helping your team reposition quickly, or contesting an objective with speed pressure. Switch back to Thunder immediately after. Staying on Tornado is a habit that kills your damage contribution.
-
5Deploy Omega Hurricane from Behind - Clean Up ImmediatelyFly to a safe angle behind the enemy team before casting. You are immune and fast during the ult, so use that window to move into position. The moment it ends, land the follow-up lightning execute or primary burst. Coordinating with a teammate ult multiplies the value significantly.
Key Decision Points
| Situation | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Damage vs Speed aura? | Default Thunder (damage) unless your team is dying or you need hard repositioning. Test swaps in spawn to build muscle memory. |
| Height decision? | Low for team play, aura coverage, and pierce value. Go higher briefly only for specific flanks or to avoid a grounded threat - then drop back. |
| Enemy diving you (Spider-Man, Black Panther)? | Stay near supports, pre-position Goddess Boost for divers, call for peel. Switch to Tornado aura if overwhelmed and need to reposition fast. |
| When to use Lightning Bolt? | Execute at 30-35% HP on duelists and divers. Not a poke tool - save it so it always secures a kill. |
| Ult timing? | Pair with a teammate ult if possible. Never use into shield abilities. From behind the enemy formation for maximum coverage. |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Playing at maximum altitude like Iron Man or Human Torch. Storm is not that type of flyer. High altitude wastes her aura, makes piercing shots near impossible to land, and leaves you exposed without the cover that backline play provides.
-
Leaving damage aura off or forgetting to switch back after repositioning. Build the habit of checking your aura state after every respawn and after every Tornado aura use.
-
Using Omega Hurricane from bad angles or without follow-up damage. A hurricane deployed into a shield, from the wrong side, or without your team nearby to follow up is a wasted ult and often feeds the enemy.
-
Over-relying on flight without team synergy. Storm's kit is team-dependent. Solo flanking deep without your aura covering anyone, or flying away from teammates during fights, throws away most of her value.
-
Ignoring natural map cover. Use buildings, platforms, and geometry heavily. Peeking out to fire Wind Blades and ducking back is far stronger than floating in open air where you are easy to hit.
