Core Problem
Post-nerf Iron Man (patches 2.5+) has reduced Repulsor Blast third-hit damage (roughly 115 to 95), smaller Armor Overdrive overshield (~50 HP), Gamma team-up removed, and lower Unibeam DPS in some cases. Players want to know what adjustments make him viable again without those removed tools.

What Changed - Nerf Summary

The Fix
The 5% team-up anchor buff is now the main compensation. Players who run Iron Man as the anchor report that primary damage returns to near pre-nerf levels - making him "basically permanent Gamma" without the team-up dependency. This single setup change is the most impactful adaptation.

Core Ability Rotation

  1. 1
Establish off-angle position via Hyper-Velocity (flight) - Use buildings and elevated geometry for cover. Hover unpredictably - never stay static. Fly in for angles from above or the side, not head-on into the team fight.
  2. 2
Farm ult with Repulsor Blast combos - Fire two single-hand shots (10 ammo each), then the dual-hand third shot (16 ammo, faster projectile - adjust aim angle). Use this for consistent chip damage and ult charge. Prioritize primaries over beam unless Overdrive is active.
  3. 3
Pop Armor Overdrive (E) at high-value moments - Activates for 10 seconds with ~50 HP overshield and boosted output. Immediately follow with Unibeam (~180-200 DPS in Overdrive window) plus Micro-Missiles. Use the animation cancel: Missiles then melee then back to primary for faster follow-up attacks.
  4. 4
Unibeam on isolated targets or Overdrive windows - Hold beam for 2-second TTK on squishy targets. Save it for Overdrive windows or low-HP cleanup. Do not use it as primary fire - it is too easy to dodge at range without the damage boost.
  5. 5
Micro-Missiles for grouped enemies and Overdrive burst - Best used during Overdrive for AoE burst or when enemies cluster. Good supplemental damage against tanks when sustained beam is not viable.
  6. 6
Invincible Pulse Cannon (ult) for team wipes or support counter-ults - With consistent poke, you should be farming this every fight. High AoE value. Use to punish grouped enemies or to interrupt enemy support ultimates.

Team Compositions

Strong Iron Man + Ultron: Ultron heals flyers passively, giving Iron Man sustain without pulling support attention. Best anchor pairing for consistent Overdrive windows.
Strong Iron Man + Storm: Flying synergy, both pressure from elevated angles. Divides enemy anti-air attention between two flyers.
Viable Luna Snow or Angela as pocket support: Consistent healing keeps you in poke range longer. Ask for pocket pre-game - do not assume it will happen.
Viable Hawkeye or Hela as second DPS: Poke mirror builds. Hela in particular forces enemies to split anti-air focus between her and Iron Man.
Avoid Pure dive comps (Spider-Man + Iron Fist): Dive heroes attract hitscan counters that also hard-counter Iron Man. If your team is full dive, swap to a ground DPS.

Key Decision Points

Anchor Secured?
If your team enables the Iron Man anchor buff, play aggressively with Overdrive dives. If no one will anchor you, play pure safe poke and swap if you go negative.
Facing Divers?
Save Armor Overdrive defensively as a survival tool rather than an offensive cooldown. The 50 HP shield plus burst damage often lets you kill the diver before they finish you.
Low Elo Play
Lean into Overdrive plus Unibeam dives. Beam TTK on squishy targets is still strong when enemies have poor mobility. Prioritize kills over ult farming.
High Elo / Poke Meta
Prioritize safe repulsor farming and ult uptime over individual kills. Play around Overdrive windows only. Positioning discipline matters far more than mechanical output.
