Elden Ring Nightreign Raider Best Tank Build
Raider best tank build for Elden Ring Nightreign - post-damage HP restore relic is mandatory, stack damage negation at full HP and on-hit passives, powerstance big Strength weapons, Retaliate timing, and the mistakes that make tank builds fold.
Core goal: Make Raider so tanky you can stand in the Nightlord's face, trade hits, and refill HP instead of dodging every attack. Community consensus is that Guardian is the intended tank, but Raider becomes more unkillable once you stack post-damage HP restore, layers of damage negation, and poise, and use Retaliate on purpose. That loop is the whole build: get hit, take almost nothing, hit back, heal, stay at or return to full HP so the best negation passives stay active.
1Relics: The Foundation
Players repeatedly say you only need one relic effect to make the tank work. Everything else is extra HP, poise, or damage.
Partial HP restoration upon post-damage attacks (ideally plus 2 if you can find it). This is the engine. You get clipped, you swing, bar comes back. Multiple threads treat this as non-negotiable.
Raider Damage taken while using Character Skill improves attack power and stamina (Torn Braided Cord or remembrance relic). Hit during Retaliate windup for plus attack and a big stamina bump for about 20s. Practice the timing in sparring grounds. It's a short window.
- 1Extra poise, max HP, Vigor plus 2 or plus 3, taking attacks improves attack power.
- 2Night of the Fathom or Augur-style HP relics (flat HP plus flask or items affecting allies) if you have them.
Players note Augur's relic can beat raw plus 3 Vigor for raw HP.
2Stack These Weapon Passives in Priority Order
This is what players say actually makes don't dodge work. You only need a few. Lucky runs get them on almost every slot.
- 1Damage negation at full HP.
Best if you can stay topped off with post-damage heals.
- 2Taking damage boosts damage negation.
Always on because you want to get hit during Retaliate.
- 3Damage negation while continuously attacking or successive attacks.
Raider's poise lets you keep swinging so this stacks.
- 4Damage negation on charged attacks.
If you live on charged R2s.
- 5Any physical or affinity negation matching the Nightlord.
- 1Ritual Shield (negation at full HP).
- 2Dragoncrest or physical negation.
- 3Green Turtle (stamina) so you can keep attacking after trades.
3Weapons and How to Hold Them
Use big Strength weapons: greataxes, great hammers, colossal swords and weapons. Dual-wield or powerstance is popular on tank Raider because L1 volume procs successive attack negation and post-damage heals faster. Star Fists plus bleed is a fun off-meta that still tanks because you hit often.
Keep Endure on the starter greataxe when the skill is on cooldown: extra poise plus reduced damage while you keep swinging.
4How to Play the Fight
- 1Stay in the boss's face. You want aggro.
- 2When a hit is coming, press Retaliate.
You take reduced damage, headbutt, often stagger. If the Raider relic is on, you also get the AP and stamina buff.
- 3Keep attacking through the next hits. Poise plus negation plus post-damage heal is the loop.
- 4Drop Totem Stela for the team Strength aura, projectile block, and a climbable rock when a one-shot phase starts.
- 5Crab up. Don't flask-panic if the bar is bouncing back from swings.
- 6Still dodge affinity, grab, or true one-shots.
Physical trades are what this build is built for. Players who face-tanked Everdark Adel or Fulghor still say elemental hits will delete you.
Common Mistakes
- Relics with no post-damage restore and no Raider skill-taken-damage line. You will look tanky until the first real combo.
- Dodging every hit so full-HP and taking damage to negation never stay up.
- Missing the Retaliate windup window for the unique relic.
- Stacking only flat HP and ignoring negation passives. Flat HP loses to layered percent negation plus heal-on-hit.
- Using Ritual Shield or full-HP negation then sitting at 70 percent HP the whole fight.
- Expecting the build to ignore status and magic without matching negation.
