Elden Ring Nightreign: Executor Boss Strategy
How to play Executor effectively against bosses - katana status builds, deflect-parry loops, draw-sheathe frames, beast ultimate windows, and the mistakes that get players killed.
1Weapon and Build Priorities
Katanas (scale best with Executor). Keep your starter katana upgraded - built-in bleed is a reliable backbone. 2-handing or 1-handing beats constant dual-wield for stamina and tracking.
Layer bleed + poison or frost or scarlet rot. Use relics like Sentinel Pest (poison) or dragon relics (frost). Caligula relic with frost is a popular community pick.
Greatbow for safe ranged damage or a second katana for extra status buildup. Avoid non-katana legendaries unless they directly feed status/curved weapon synergies.
Damage negation at full HP, frost/poison boosters, anything that enhances parry or stance damage. Full-HP defensive relics extend your parry window and let you trade more aggressively.
2Combat Loop Against Bosses
Approach and Positioning
Use running R2 or rolling attacks to close gaps safely. Katanas lack great lunge, so position to the side of the boss, not directly behind. Bosses track and turn, so lateral positioning gives you more windows.
Don't spam R1 into open range - if the boss steps back, reset rather than chase and overshoot.
Draw/Sheathe Parry Frames
Drawing or sheathing the cursed blade gives active parry frames. Use this to initiate engagements without sacrificing your main weapon's status buildup mid-chain. Parry chains accumulate massive stance damage.
This is Executor's most underused mechanic. Practice the timing in lower-threat encounters before using it against Nightlords.
Deflect + Guard Counter
Land a deflect, then immediately guard counter for strong stance damage. Follow with katana status attacks during the stagger window. Charged cursed blade L2 also interrupts and does good stance damage - use it as a punish or escape tool.
DPS Phase
Once stance is broken or during a safe opening: spam light/heavy combos on your status weapon. 2-hand charged R2 + follow-up is especially strong here. Don't waste this window on repositioning.
Beast Ultimate (Aspects of the Crucible)
Save for: big damage windows, when your HP is critically low (it gives a second health bar and full heal on activation), or when teammates are down. In beast form: heavy attacks stagger elites hard; roar revives allies from range.
Finish boss fights with the skill if possible. Use to absorb burst damage that would otherwise wipe you.
Don't burn it on trash mobs. It's a fight-saving tool first, damage tool second.
