Elden Ring Nightreign Gladius Castle Expedition Strategy
Gladius Castle expedition strategy for Elden Ring Nightreign - enter via moat, skip Bell Bearing Hunter basement, talisman chest priority, courtyard to roof order, holy weapon prep for Gladius, and the mistakes that lose runs to rain.
Core goal: On a Tricephalos (Gladius) expedition, use Day 2 (or late Day 1 if you're ahead) to efficiently farm the central castle so you hit level 11 to 15, grab a holy weapon or Holy Grease, pick up the talisman chest, and leave with flasks and runes before the rain swallows the roof. Teams wipe or show up underleveled because they start the roof too late, fight the wrong basement boss, or get greedy when the circle is already closing.
Decision Points First
- Castle in the current circle and no strong Shifting Earth? Prioritize it. It is the most reliable source of runes, mid and late weapons, and the talisman room.
- Shifting Earth (especially Noklateo or Rot Forest) available? Finish basement plus courtyard or knights on Day 1 or very early Day 2, then leave the roof for later or skip it. Don't try to full-clear castle and the event.
- Basement boss is Bell Bearing Hunter or Royal Revenant and you're not already strong? Skip it. Kill the other basement option or just take the gate or talisman if you already opened it, then go up. Time spent dying there is worse than missing one boss drop.
- Rain already eating the courtyard? Do basement plus talisman only, grab what you can from knights on the way up, and leave the roof boss. Half a roof fight is a net loss.
1Step-by-Step Castle Route
- 1Enter via the moat or sewer, not the front gate.
Look for the lower tunnel (north side often has crabs near a church or flask route). This drops you at the underground formidable boss fast so you can test whether the run is worth committing.
- 2Kill the basement boss if it is not BBH or Revenant.
After it dies the inner gate opens and you get the talisman chest. Take the talisman that helps the Gladius fight (fire negation, successive-attack negation, full-HP negation, or anything that keeps you alive in the split phase). Then immediately go up.
- 3Clear courtyard and mid-level packs on the way up, not after.
Crucible Knights are the best value (runes plus usable drops). Banished Knights are next. Trolls are only worth it if you have nothing else left and the circle is still generous. Do the spear Crucible Knights first because they sit on the natural path to the roof.
- 4Roof last, and only if you have time.
Jump the central passageways to the highest rooftop. The roof boss is the highest-rune and best-loot fight in the castle (often legendary-tier or a Wending Grace). Watch the rain timer the whole time. If it starts covering the platform, disengage and leave. You can still extract the runes you already banked.
- 5Before you leave for Day 3: confirm you have at least one holy-affinity weapon or Holy Grease, 5 to 6 flask charges, and a backup weapon.
Buy from the castle merchant if you still lack holy. Then go to the Nightlord arena.
Common Mistakes That Lose Runs
- Starting the roof boss when the storm is already closing. Teams sunken-cost the fight and wipe or arrive at Gladius with no flasks. Do roof first thing on Day 2 if that's your plan.
- Treating every basement boss as mandatory. BBH and Revenant eat minutes and flasks. Skip them if the team is not already steamrolling.
- Ignoring holy icons on camps or ruins earlier in the run, then hoping the castle merchant saves you. Holy is the single biggest fight-changer for Gladius (especially the three-dog phase).
- Splitting the party so one player is still in the sewer while two are on the roof when rain hits. Stay together after the talisman room.
- Saving the entire castle for late Day 2 when a Shifting Earth is up. You will not finish both cleanly.
