Elden Ring Nightreign DLC Boss Strategy Order
Complete boss progression for Nightreign Forsaken Hollows DLC. Balancers gank fight and Dreglord rot boss with team comps, phase tactics, relic priorities, and preparation steps.
The DLC Boss Challenge
The Forsaken Hollows DLC adds two major bosses to Elden Ring Nightreign. The Balancers fight is a multi-Valkyrie gank that many players consider harder than the final DLC boss. Dreglord follows as the final encounter with rot mechanics. Both require specific preparation, team coordination, and phase awareness that base game bosses do not demand.
Do not rush into DLC bosses under-leveled. Farm relics and reach levels 13-15 through base Nightlords first. The Balancers fight punishes unprepared teams severely.
Recommended Boss Order
-
Preparation: Beat 2+ Base Nightlords First
Beat at least 2 base Nightlords (Gladius or Tricephalos path recommended for accessibility). This unlocks Scholar and Undertaker characters via Tricephalos. Turn off Shifting Earth if you want familiar map practice. Farm relics, reach levels 13-15, stock Wending Graces, and prepare status tools: Sleep, Bleed, Frost, Holy, and Fire.
-
Balancers (Weapon-Bequeathed Harmonia)
The big pain point. Multi-Valkyrie gank with phases, teleports, grabs, and a leader (pink) that buffs the group. Many consider this tougher than Dreglord due to chaos. Do it in a trio for aggro split. See detailed strategy below.
-
Dreglord (Traitorous Straghess)
Unlocks after Balancers. Rot-focused with adds in Phase 1, faster solo boss in Phase 2. Easier for most players once you have DLC practice. Use rot resist and burst damage. See detailed strategy below.
Balancers Strategy (Most Discussed)
Team Composition
Guardian provides tanking, ult healing, and blocking at arena edge. Undertaker brings vigor relics for tanking and ult spam. Scholar ult is huge for linking and sleep control. A damage flex rounds out the team.
Phase 1: Multiple Valkyries
- Spread out initially. Each player pulls 1-2 Valkyries. Run to create separation, then fight isolated targets.
- Focus white and lesser ones first. They have lower HP. Clearing them reduces gank pressure.
- Use Guardian ult for healing windows. Communicate aggro swaps with your team.
- Avoid grouping up. Staying together gets you blendered by combos and grabs from multiple angles.
Phase 2+: Leader (Pink) Evolves
- One player baits main aggro and stays away from the group. Others burn adds, then swap to focus pink together.
- Learn the leader's combo: float into rifts into spear stream. Dodge sideways, then into the finisher.
- Steel Guard and guard counters on Guardian. Jump attacks, heavies, or ranged (Ironeye bow spam) for safe damage.
- Use Sleep on minor Valkyries. Breaks on hit but controls chaos during critical moments.
Focus main leader for stagger breathing room, or clear adds first? Community leans toward clearing adds progressively while pressuring the main when safe. Do not fully kill the main too early or phase transitions reset progress badly.
Dreglord Strategy
Preparation
Stock rot resist items (Preserving Bolus), Bleed weapons, and Holy, Fire, or Frost damage. Bleed procs interrupt big moves. Rot builds fast in this fight, so bolus use must be immediate.
Phase 1: Rot Zombies and Adds
- Clear rot zombies and mobs fast. Ignoring them lets rot overwhelm the arena.
- Stay mid-range. Hit 2-3 times after the boss attacks, then back off.
- Bleed procs interrupt big moves. Time your heavy attacks to proc bleed during boss windups.
Phase 2: Solo Boss
- Keep distance but not max distance. Chip with fast spells or ranged attacks.
- Burst openings after combos. The boss is faster solo but has clear punish windows.
- Pop Preserving Bolus immediately when rot builds. Do not wait for it to tick down.
Key Decision Points
-
Solo vs Trio
Many players switch to solo (Raider, Ironeye, or Wylder with colossal jump bonks or bow) after bad randoms. Trio shines for Balancers aggro split. If your random teammates are uncoordinated, solo may be more consistent.
-
Map and Run Prep
Use the old map first for comfort. Prioritize keys, merchant visits, and field bosses for levels and flasks before engaging the DLC boss. Do not push the DLC boss under-leveled.
-
Relic Loadouts
Guardian: remembrance vessel, art gauge on block, Ed Maris. Damage characters: damage negation, ult speed, invis, or frost relics. Undertaker: vigor relics for tanking and ult spam.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Fighting multiple Valkyries at once in Balancers. This leads to staggers and grabs from off-screen attacks.
- Ignoring adds early in Dreglord. Rot overwhelms the arena quickly if mobs are not cleared.
- Rushing without levels, relics, or proper team comp. All melee glass cannon teams get destroyed by Balancers.
- Tunnel vision on the main boss. Losing track of the pack in Balancers gets you killed from off-screen grabs.
