STAR WARS Zero Company Infinite Coil Shadow Plague Threat
How to counter the Infinite Coil's Resonance and Surge mechanics in STAR WARS Zero Company. Kill order, stack transfer control, Crisis mission priorities, and squad loadout decisions.
Stop the Infinite Coil from turning every fight into a snowball via Resonance. When an Infected Coil unit dies, its Resonance stacks transfer to the nearest surviving Infected unit. At 3 stacks that unit Surges: it heals, gets much stronger, and unlocks extra abilities. Kill order, isolation, and which Coil upgrades you block with Crisis missions decide whether you stay in control or get overrun.
Step 1: Read the Battlefield Before You Shoot
Look at every Coil unit's current Resonance stacks and which ones are Isolated vs clustered. Resonance only transfers to the nearest Infected unit, so positioning and who dies first matter more than raw damage.
Guardians first when covering others
Shared Suffering cuts damage to the protected unit by 75% and dumps 25% onto the Guardian. Kill the Guardian and the protection drops.
Seers next if present
They ignore armor and Ray Shields and can Bind. They also tend to sit in positions that let them soak transferred stacks.
Scourges last or isolated
They explode on death. Use the explosion to finish clustered enemies only if you can control who receives the Resonance afterward. Otherwise knock them off the map or leave them until the end.
Step 2: Control Transfer with Knock-offs and Clustering
Use concussion grenades and knockback
Concussion grenades (your astromech often has two uses) and knockback abilities are the most-mentioned tools for Resonance control. Pushing a unit off the map or into a position with no nearby Infected allies means the stacks have nowhere to go. Players specifically call this out for Dark Waters and other maps with ledges.
Cluster damage to spread stacks thinly
If you cannot knock them off, cluster your own damage so multiple Coil units die in the same turn or in an order that spreads stacks thinly instead of dumping everything onto one survivor.
Step 3: Crisis and Operations Choices
Each cycle the Coil gets upgrades. Crisis missions let you block one upgrade per type. Ignore them and they get both.
Squad and Loadout Decisions
Bring a single-target deleter
Bring at least one operator who can delete a wounded unit in a single action (Jae's Final Shot is frequently recommended) so you do not leave 2-stack units sitting.
AOE for thinning groups
AOE (Cly is commonly cited) helps when you need to thin a group before stacks concentrate.
Medic with full-revive
A medic who can full-revive is insurance for the long final mission chain where you cannot swap the roster. Hawks is mandatory and must live.
Save grenades for Coil packs
Save concussion grenades and knockbacks for Coil packs, not generic droids.
Common Mistakes
- Killing the weakest or lowest-HP Coil first "just to thin numbers." That often feeds a 2-stack unit into Surge.
- Leaving Scourges in the middle of a pack so the explosion and Resonance transfer happen together.
- Skipping early Crisis missions because they looked optional. The extra Resonance upgrade is the one people wish they had blocked.
- Treating Coil fights like droid fights (ion weapons, cover hugging). Coil units ignore some of those rules and punish bad kill order instead.
