Star Wars Zero Company: Day Zero Patch Stability Crashes Fix
Workarounds for post-Day Zero patch crashes: Intel 13/14 gen BIOS and XTU undervolt, NVIDIA driver rollback, config AA swap, Environment Geometry Detail off, and save-before-extraction rules for permadeath runs.
Core problem: After the Day Zero patch, the game still hard-crashes or freezes, often mid-mission, at extraction, or while loading the Den, wiping unsaved battle progress in a permadeath game. Startup shader and Oodle crashes and GPU driver crashes are also common on specific hardware. A first official bugs and performance patch is announced for the week after Sept 3, 2026. Until then, these are the workarounds that got people playing.
1Identify Your Crash Type
- Won't reach the menu, DecompressShaderWithOodle, or shader crash: Almost always Intel 13th or 14th-gen desktop CPU instability. Steam threads say BIOS update or undervolt and ratio drop fixed it.
- FD3D12 or GPU crash on launch or options: NVIDIA driver plus upscaler combo. Players fixed it by rolling back the driver and switching AA or upscale in the config file.
- Crash at mission end, extraction, or loading the Den: Files, save path, overlays, or GPU load spike. Players lose the whole mission if they didn't save before the hang.
- Freeze on enemy turn, Overwatch, or camera zoom-out: CPU hitch plus high geometry settings.
2Repair Files After the Day Zero Patch
- 1EA App: Library, Star Wars Zero Company, menu, Repair, reboot.
- 2Steam: Library, Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files.
3GPU Driver: Pick the Right One
- 1If you use DLSS and your driver is 610.88 or older, update to the current Game Ready driver.
Community cites 616.56 as the game-ready drop. Restart the PC after.
- 2If the newest driver causes launch GPU crashes, roll back to 595.71 or 610.
Then change upscaler in the config (see Step 5).
- 3After any crash, press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B to reset the GPU driver before relaunching.
4Intel 13th or 14th-Gen Desktop CPU Fix
- 1Update motherboard BIOS to the latest microcode.
Follow your board maker's steps. Multiple Steam users said flashing BIOS was what finally launched the game.
- 2If you won't flash BIOS: Intel XTU, lower Performance Core Ratio from 55x to 54x, 53x, or 52x.
EA itself listed this as the alternative.
5Config Tweak for GPU Crash (FD3D12)
- 1Close the game.
- 2Open C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\SWZeroCompany\Saved\Config\Windows
- 3Change upscale or AA from the default (often TSR) to TAA (or TSR if you were on TAA).
Set both default and current.
- 4Set MotionBlur and FilmGrain to False.
- 5Verify files, launch.
6In-Game Settings That Stop Mid-Mission Crashes
- 1Display: Borderless Windowed.
Fullscreen plus alt-tab is a common crash.
- 2Cap FPS at 60.
If hitching remains, use RTSS. The built-in limiter has bad pacing.
- 3Disable frame generation.
- 4Turn Environment Geometry Detail OFF.
Community megathread: large FPS jump and fewer freezes.
- 5Lower or disable: shadows, global illumination, hidden objects detail, motion blur, depth of field.
- 6Upscale: DLSS or FSR Quality or TSR.
If DLSS crashes, use FSR, TSR, or TAA instead.
- 7Install on an internal NVMe, not an external drive.
Save and load crashes on external drives.
7Stop Losing Permadeath Progress
- 1Save before extraction, camera pull-back, and returning to the Den.
Those are the crash windows.
- 2Close Discord overlay, NVIDIA or AMD overlay, Afterburner OSD, GeForce Instant Replay.
- 3Don't alt-tab in exclusive fullscreen.
Key Decisions
Common Mistakes
- Updating GPU drivers over the old install without a clean reinstall. When the new driver is the crash, a dirty update does not fix it.
- Leaving Environment Geometry Detail on while chasing FPS or stability. It is the single biggest stutter and freeze trigger.
- Exclusive fullscreen plus overlays. Alt-tab crashes and overlay hooks both trigger GPU hangs.
- Assuming the Day Zero patch finished the job. Players still crash after it. The workarounds above are needed until the post-launch patch.
- Skipping BIOS or XTU on Intel 13th or 14th gen because the PC is fine in other games. The Oodle error names that CPU class specifically.
- Playing a full mission without an extra save before extraction. A crash at the Den load wipes the entire run.
