NBA 2K27 MyCAREER Eras: Starting Year Selection Guide
MyCAREER Eras lets you start in 1984, 1991, 2003, 2010, or 2016. Each year locks rosters, rules, and presentation. Here is how to pick the right era, what each year gives you, and how to avoid wasting your build.
Core problem: After finishing the MyPLAYER builder, NBA 2K27 asks you to pick a MyCAREER path. Players get stuck on which starting year to lock in, because that choice decides your rosters, rules, presentation, whether you draft, and which reward track you grind. You cannot drop an existing 99 into another era later. That save is tied to the path you pick.
1The Five Starting Years
| Era | Starts | What You Drop Into |
|---|---|---|
| Magic vs. Bird | 1984 | Rookie MJ hits Chicago. Magic and Bird still running the league. |
| Jordan | 1991 | Bulls first three-peat about to start. |
| Kobe | 2003 | Kobe's Lakers plus the 2003 draft class (LeBron enters). |
| LeBron | 2010 | Superteam era begins (Heatles window). |
| Steph | 2016 | 3-point revolution and Warriors dynasty window. |
2How to Lock the Year Correctly
-
1
Finish the builder first
Attributes, badges, and body are the same process as a normal MyCAREER. Do not rush this. Eras does not let you rebirth that 99 into a different era later. Make a new save if you want another year.
-
2
When the path screen appears, pick MyCAREER Eras
Not Fire and Concrete and not City-only. Fire and Concrete is the modern story with 11 chapters, Running Mate co-op, and the story-tied reward and VC track. Eras is the historical start year plus Eras Moments, a 40-level cosmetic track. If free VC and story quests are the priority, do Fire and Concrete on the first build and save Eras for build number two.
-
3
Select the starting year that matches the teammate or rivalry you want
Want to share the floor with rookie MJ: pick 1984. Want to stop the first three-peat or steal MJ's MVPs: pick 1991. Want LeBron as a rookie or play with or against Kobe: pick 2003. Want Heatles and superteam chaos: pick 2010. Want the 3-point era and Warriors dynasty window: pick 2016.
-
4
Pick the team from that year's list only
You will not see every historical jersey. Pick the club whose real-life roster in that start year is the one you want to join. After that, history still plays out with trades, drafts, and retirements. Draft order stays historically locked even if your standings are different.
-
5
Play to Eras Moments, not the modern chapter list
Progression in this path is objective-based: records, rival beatdowns, era-specific milestones feeding a 40-level reward track. That is the grind, not Fire and Concrete cutscenes.
-
6
Treat presentation as part of the pick
Each year has its own locker rooms, HUDs, score bugs, and broadcast filters. 1984 is supposed to look like a 1980s broadcast, not modern UI with a sepia filter. If the vibe is why you bought the mode, start earlier.
3Key Decisions You Will Face
4Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Picking Fire and Concrete by habit then realizing you cannot time-travel that save into 1991. The path choice is permanent for that build.
-
Assuming you draft in Eras the same way as the modern prelude. First-look creators said you choose team or situation with no draft.
-
Picking a year for a star who is not on that roster yet. For example, expecting 2016 Steph in the 1991 file on day one. Stars are locked to their real historical timeline.
-
Expecting CPU trades to make sense for your superteam. Movement is historically locked. Draft and star destinations stay real even if you just went 70-12.
-
Building one 99 and planning to hop eras. The working assumption is new grind per era. Make a new MyPLAYER for each era you want to play.
-
Starting Eras first if you care about the season pass or story VC track. Several community threads said to park that for a second character.
