NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Builder: Takeover Disciplines
You run five Takeover abilities at once - one per discipline - but each named ability is locked behind hard attribute cutoffs and Takeover Progression. Plan the gates in the builder before you spend VC.
Core problem: each specialist Takeover ability is locked behind exact attribute cutoffs and progression levels. Players get stuck with default boosts - or rebuild entirely - because they planned badges first and Takeovers last. The five on-court disciplines are Rebounding, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, and Shooting. Physicals is a sixth discipline but it is for badges and Build Specialization only - it does not get a Takeover slot.
1Lock the Five Slots to Your Playstyle
Every build starts with five default slots (plain attribute boosts, roughly +30 up to a cap near 80). You swap those for named abilities once you qualify.
| Discipline | Abilities Players Pick |
|---|---|
| Shooting | Default, Shot Artist (off-dribble jumpers), Calibrated (set / catch-and-shoot), Zip Code (deep range, 91 3PT gate) |
| Finishing | Default, Navigator (85 Driving Layup), Airspace (87 Driving Dunk + 75 Vertical), Inside Touch, Detonator, Paint Surgeon |
| Playmaking | Default, Blur (blow-bys), Cook (ankle breakers), Dishmaster (teammates finish better after your pass) |
| Defense | Default, Glue (pickups), Hawk (on-ball steals), Rim Guardian |
| Rebounding | Default, Muscle (often 80 OREB / 80 DREB / 80 Strength), See The Future, Second Chance, Demolition |
| Any slot | Hydration Hero - stops Adrenaline and stamina/turbo drain while active. No rating gate; unlocks later in progression (around level 6). Many park it in their weakest discipline. |
2Hit the Attribute Gates First
These are hard cutoffs - an 84 does not unlock an 85 ability. Plan the exact number, then cap-break after you know the gate.
- 1Calibrated: 85 3PT or 85 Mid.
Cheapest real shooting ability - the catch-and-shoot wing choice.
- 2Shot Artist: 89 3PT or 89 Mid.
The ISO / off-dribble guard gate.
- 3Zip Code: 91 3PT.
Deep-range spacers only. Expensive cap.
- 4Navigator: 85 Driving Layup. Airspace: 87 Driving Dunk and 75 Vertical.
Guard slashers keep posting the Airspace + Blur combo.
- 5Muscle (rebounding): commonly 80 OREB / 80 DREB / 80 Strength.
3Unlock Categories, Then Swap In-Game
- 1Progression is shared across MyCAREER saves.
Meters are per discipline and fill based on what you actually do on the court.
- 2Reported unlock order: Rebounding, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, Shooting.
Shooting comes last - play the other meters while you wait.
- 3How to change: MyCAREER - Progression - Takeover - pick the discipline - cycle to an ability your current ratings qualify for.
The menu stays locked until that discipline's progression level is reached.
- 4After level 5: remaining levels (21 rewards total) unlock the ability to modify each discipline plus 15 Takeover Perks.
4Equip One Perk Per Discipline
| Perk | What It Does | Pick When |
|---|---|---|
| Accelerator | Meter fills faster | Short Rec / Theater games so you actually see Takeover |
| Longevity | Ability lasts longer after trigger | You already get hot every game; also the Hydration Hero slot so the stamina lock lasts |
| Overdrive | Bigger attribute bump when it pops | You trigger reliably and want a bigger spike |
Build-Role Cheat Sheet
| Role | Attributes to Hit | Typical Slot Plan |
|---|---|---|
| ISO / off-dribble guard | 89 Mid or 89 3PT | Shot Artist + Blur + Airspace |
| Catch-and-shoot wing | 85 Mid or 85 3PT | Calibrated + Glue/Hawk |
| Deep spacer | 91 3PT | Zip Code |
| Paint / slasher | 87 Dunk + 75 Vert, 85 Layup | Airspace or Navigator |
| Big / glass | 80/80/80 reb + str | Muscle or See The Future |
| Any build that dies late | - | Hydration Hero in the unused slot |
Common Mistakes
- Building badges first, Takeovers second. An 84 close shot or 88 three that "almost" hits a gate is a wasted slider. Cutoffs are exact.
- Assuming Shot Artist / Calibrated are still launch-broken. They were nerfed in Patch 1.3.
- Ignoring Hydration Hero. The only ability that fits any discipline, and it solves late-game turbo death.
- Waiting for Shooting (level 5) and never playing the other meters. Rebounding unlocks first - use it.
- Cap-breaking Physicals expecting extra Takeover options. Physicals does not get a Takeover slot.
- Treating default +30 as "good enough" forever. Defaults cap low; named abilities are the actual playstyle tools.
