Mortal Shell II Slayer Seal: Why Achievements Disable and How to Handle It
Equipping the Slayer Seal permanently locks achievements on that save. Here is exactly what happens, how to use the Seal safely, and what to do if you already equipped it.
Core problem: The Slayer Seal is Mortal Shell II's easy-mode item. Equipping it permanently disables achievements and trophies on that save file. Unequipping it later does not re-enable them. The game shows multiple confirmation warnings before you can equip it, so accidental activation is hard but not impossible. The developers later explained this was not the original plan (they wanted separate Slayer achievements) but were constrained by the disc version locking achievement definitions early.
1Safe Handling: Pick It Up, Do Not Equip It
-
1
Reach Marrow Keep after the prologue
The Slayer Seal is found in the main hub area, not in a combat zone. You do not need to fight anything to reach it.
-
2
From the Beacon fast-travel point, head right into the side tunnel
Take the overgrown outdoor cliff path near Merrick's area. The route is short and there are no enemies blocking it.
-
3
Approach the stone throne overlooking the view and pick up the glowing item
This is the Slayer Seal. Picking it up is completely safe. It sits in your inventory with no penalty.
-
4
Leave it unequipped if you want achievements on this save
Switch to other Seals (Untarnished, Vatra's, Infinite) as normal. The Slayer Seal stays in your inventory unused.
2Key Decision: Should You Equip the Slayer Seal?
3If You Already Equipped It: Your Options
Achievements stay disabled on that save even after unequipping. Community reports and Steam threads are consistent on the permanence. Here is what you can do:
-
All Platforms
Start a new save file for an achievement run. Keep your easy-mode save for fun and exploration. This is the cleanest, guaranteed path to a platinum or 100% completion run.
-
Console
No equivalent workaround exists on PlayStation or Xbox. Console players must use the new-save approach. There is no official re-enable option and no mod access.
-
PC Only
Install the "Slayer Seal Achievement Enabler" mod from Nexus Mods. Requires UE4SS. The mod removes the disable so you can use the Slayer Seal and still earn achievements. Players on Steam threads confirm it works after a save and restart. This is an unofficial community mod, not a developer fix.
4Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Equipping because the effects look strong without reading the final warning slide. Players repeatedly post "I thought it was OP, then saw the catch." The game warns you multiple times for a reason.
-
Assuming unequipping restores achievements. It does not. Community reports and Steam threads are consistent: the disable is permanent for that save.
-
Ignoring the inventory requirement. Some later content needs the Slayer Seal present in your inventory even if unequipped. Grab it regardless of whether you plan to use it.
-
Relying on it for a first 100% run. If you want both the easy experience and the full achievement list, save the Slayer Seal for a second playthrough. Do your achievement run first on standard difficulty.
