Mortal Shell II Respec a Shell After the Week 1 Patch
The Week 1 patch added a way to refund Glimpses spent on a Shell Bond. You need a consumable called Mether's Severance and a talk with Zhirelle. Here is the exact loop.
What the patch actually changed: Shell Points (the skill tree points) were already free to refund at any Beacon. The new feature is refunding Glimpses spent on a Shell Bond, the permanent-feeling investment that unlocks higher skill tiers. You need a consumable called Mether's Severance and a specific NPC interaction. Without it, those Glimpses stay locked.
1How to Respec a Shell Bond
-
1
Get Mether's Severance
Two reliable sources after the patch: buy it from Merrick in Marrow Keep (Rare Findings section) for 5,000 Gold, or loot the hidden chest behind a breakable wall in Marrow Keep for a free one.
-
2
Equip the exact Shell whose Bond you want to reset
Only the currently inhabited Shell is affected. Other Shells stay as they are. Switch at a Beacon if you are not in the right one.
-
3
Go to Zhirelle, the Shell Keeper
She is in the Shellkeeper's Vault or her alcove in Marrow Keep.
-
4
Talk to her while holding Mether's Severance
Choose the "Shell Severance" option and confirm.
-
5
The item is consumed and all Glimpses are refunded
The Bond is reset. You can immediately reinvest them on the same Shell or a different one.
2When to Respec vs When to Skip
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting to switch into the target Shell before talking to Zhirelle. Only the currently inhabited Shell gets reset. You waste the consumable on the wrong one.
- Expecting it to work on Genessa. The prompt does not appear. Those Glimpses appear stuck for now.
- Confusing it with the free Shell Point refund. That one is done at any Beacon or with Zhirelle without an item. Mether's Severance is only for Bond/Glimpses.
- Hoarding Glimpses "just in case." Post-patch advice is to spend them when a Bond tier looks useful. You can now recover them, so sitting on a pile gains nothing.
