Core problem: Players keep switching Seals mid-run because the default one fights how they actually want to play. The Seal is the playstyle, not a minor stat stick. If combat feels wrong, change the Seal before you change the Shell.

1Get All Four Seals First

Collect them in order so you can swap at any Beacon before a boss.

Swap location: Inventory Seals tab, or the equipment menu at a Beacon. The Beacon is faster right before a boss.

2Pick by How You Actually Fight

Untarnished Seal
Safety net - first playthrough
Hold block, time Perfect Guard for Break. Missed timing still reduces damage. Best for first hours, crowds, and attacks from multiple angles.

Tradeoff: You stay locked in your attack animation. You cannot cancel a swing into defense. Aggressive players call this the weakest of the four for that reason.

Vatra's Seal
Stay swinging - aggressive default
Hold the defense button to Harden mid-attack. The swing pauses, the hit bounces, then the swing continues. That is the whole playstyle.

Time the hit as it lands for a Perfect Harden and the cooldown refunds instantly with Break damage. Does not work on red-flash grabs. The most-recommended swap on community forums for anyone who hated the starter Seal's lack of cancel.

Infinite Seal
Known boss - max Break
No block. Miss means you eat the hit and stagger. Tighter window than Untarnished, more Break than Perfect Guard. Can cancel attacks into parry.

After the patch, consecutive parries have a wider window into the next wind-up, so multi-hit strings are less punishing. Can send projectiles back, including big rocks. Use for single-target boss duels once you have seen the moveset, not for first-time chaos.

Slayer Seal
Easy mode - achievements disabled
Sidearms deal Break. Ripostes restore health and Resolve. Slayer Punch charges, dashes, deals huge Break, and auto-ripostes when the bar fills.

The cost: achievements are disabled on that save while it is equipped. This is the easy mode. Unequip if you want trophies again.

Swap freely. The Seal is the playstyle. Players explicitly change Seal after the first attempt at a boss when the default feels wrong.
