Mortal Shell II Best Shells Tier List
All eight Shells ranked from SS to C with roles, unlock order, combat loops, and top community loadouts. Pick the right Shell for your playstyle instead of dumping Glimpses into the first one you find.
The core question: which Shell do you invest Glimpses in when you cannot max all eight? Community consensus is not "one best Shell" but role-based: Proxima for early survival and gold farming, Eredrim for Break-heavy bosses, and Genessa for the highest damage ceiling once you can afford her. Three fully invested Shells is the real cap most players hit in one run.
★Shell Tier List
Early unlock with Shadow invisibility, Shadow Strike, poison detonate, and high crit scaling that creates its own punish windows.
Faithful and Stray Doubles copy weapon and sidearm hits for the highest damage ceiling and safer off-angle pressure.
Miracle freezes time and detonates Chaos stacks for boss-melting burst, but it costs HP and punishes sloppy play.
Grafted Armor mitigation plus Biosampler hook and lightning DoT make her the easiest high-floor Shell from mid-early game.
Heavy armor and Break-focused kit stagger bosses and convert poise breaks into executions without a fussy setup.
Pain-to-grey-health and curse thorns can feel unkillable in clean play, but taking hits collapses the loop.
Highest base HP, 10% DR, and Overheat shockwaves clear groups, but boss DPS and flexibility lag the top Shells.
Revered Heart sustain and charged stagger punches help dungeons, but slow charge windows and weak boss flexibility keep him last.
⚗Top 3 Community Loadouts
Fast multi-hits feed crit and poison stones; Trebuchaxe cashes stealth windows for burst damage.
Doubles multiply Duality and Torpor light-attack loops into the safest high DPS kit in the game.
Hook into charged lights plus grafted mitigation is the most-cited early-to-mid carry loadout.
1Unlock Order Players Actually Use
-
1
Proxima (do this first)
From Widow's Overlook / Blackridge Pass, go north into Blackridge Cliffs, past the cultists, into the glowing Shattered Beacon. Interact with the body on the table. Zhirelle marks the area. This is the easy early unlock.
-
2
Eredrim (early-to-mid, after you can handle a real boss)
Citadel of Penance (northwest Fainweald). Reach the central pit and lift, fight The Warden, then interact with Eredrim's corpse in the arena. Expect a real fight, not a free pickup.
-
3
Genessa (last of the three, no map marker)
Talk to Sester Genessa in Marrow Keep until dialogue is exhausted. Go to Abbey Entrance / eastern Mammon, find the Revenant Graves (red specters and red trees). Interact to enter the arena, beat Sester Secundus, take Sester's Censer. Return the Censer to Genessa in Marrow Keep. She is the only Shell Zhirelle will not mark.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Dumping all Glimpses into the first Shell you like. There are not enough to max the roster. Three fully invested Shells is the real cap.
- Treating Genessa like a normal melee Shell before Doubles are cheap. Without Resolve she is average. She needs the clone economy running.
- Taking Eredrim into dense trash rooms. He feels worse than Proxima in groups. He is a boss specialist.
- Skipping Proxima's Collector if you are broke. This is the only Shell that prints merchant gold on purpose.
- Looking for Genessa on Zhirelle's map. She is not there. Follow the Sester Censer questline.
- Using Genessa Stray as if she still has her first health pool. Stray is glass. The clones are the HP.
