Goal: Beat the Spider Crab on the starting Lighthouse island, hand in its unique drop, get the Boat Keys, buy the Radar, and sail northwest to the second island (Forest). Killing the boss alone does not unlock the boat. You must hand in the Shell to the keeper first.

1Farm Money and Gear Up First

Do not give the keeper the beer until you have a weapon, full health, and food in inventory. Giving it early means a wasted fight and another $12 beer if you die.

2Get the Empty Beer Can Lure

3Fight the Spider Crab

Cast the empty can near shore. The crab has a health bar and a white escape timer underneath. If the timer empties, it leaves and you recast.

The combat loop that works:
  • Stay close enough that it charges, not so far that it starts jumping. Jumps waste time and hit harder.
  • Sidestep the lunge. Do not trade hits face-on. 3-4 claw hits will drop you.
  • When stars or swirls appear over its head (self-stun after a missed charge), run in and land 2-3 hits, then back off.
  • Repeat. Eat a clam or fish if you are low.
  • Keep damaging during stun windows so the escape timer does not run out.

4Hand In the Shell (The Actual Unlock)

If the boat is visible but you still cannot drive it, you skipped the hand-in. The kill alone does not unlock the boat. The Shell hand-in is what triggers the keys.

5Buy the Radar and Sail to Forest

Next step on Forest: Talk to the woman by the lake. The next gate is collecting leeches for the Giant Piranha.

Key Decisions

Weapon choice
Knife (sharpened) vs Knuckles
Knife is the usual pick. Sharpen it at least twice on the anvil. Knuckles ($24) are cheaper if you are broke and cannot afford the knife ($45).
When to give beer
Only when fully ready
Weapon equipped, full health, food in inventory. Giving it early means a wasted fight and another $12 if you die.
Fight positioning
Stay mid-range
Too close means clawed. Too far means jump attacks and timer waste. Bait the charge, sidestep, punish the stun.
