How to Fish Mutated Bowhead Whale Volcano Final Boss
The mutated whale does not come off a lure. You kill a normal Bowhead, carry the body to the summit crater, and throw it in. Here is the full two-phase chain, the gear check, and the casino kite cheese.
This is a two-fight chain. The mutated whale does not come off a lure. You must kill a normal Bowhead Whale first and throw that body into the summit crater. Players keep wiping because they trigger the fight undergeared, stand under landings, or speed-boat away and despawn the boss. Gear first, throw, sprint, then either hold the volcano or commit to the slow casino kite.
1Unlock the Fish Bucket

Go to Volcano or military island
Find the scientist in the yellow hazmat suit.

Catch five volcano-native fish with the Scientific Lure
Hand them in to the scientist. That is what gives you the Fish Bucket.

Do not cast the bucket yet
Read Step 2 first. A wipe on phase 2 means recatching a whole new Bowhead.
2Prepare Before You Spend the Bucket

Buy the Assault Rifle and put damage upgrades on it
Community runs treat this as the DPS check. Shotgun and dynamite are called out as too weak.

Fill inventory with cooked food or healing from camp or military base
There is no armor. Heal the instant you take a hit.

Keep a spare Fish Bucket if you can
A wipe on phase 2 means recatching a whole new Bowhead. Having a backup saves the run.

Structures break slams that kill you in the open.
3Phase 1 - Bowhead Whale

Equip the Fish Bucket and cast from Volcano island

When it goes airborne, sprint in a straight line away
Sidestepping puts you back under the landing. Hide around buildings, shoot between slams, eat in the gaps, not after you already got hit.

When it dies, pick up the body
Do not sell it, grill it, or drop it as trash. That carcass is the phase-2 key. The sell price on it is a display lie.
4Summon the Mutated Whale

Carry the body to the crater at the top of the volcano
Slope lava streams do not count. It must be the summit crater.

Throw it in, then run immediately
It erupts where you are standing. Players report getting insta one-shot on spawn if they stand still.

Stay tied to the volcano region
Speed-boating away is a common wipe: the boss despawns and you need a new Bowhead.
5Phase 2 - Mutated Bowhead Whale
Same slam pattern as phase 1, plus persistent magma pools on the ground, magma spit projectiles, landing slams that can one-shot from full HP, and reports of multi-bounce landings.

Shoot only when the ground is clear
Lava puddles are instant fail if you stand in them. Magma spit is the hardest projectile to dodge.

There is no armor. Every hit matters.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Selling or abandoning the first whale. The body is the phase-2 key. The sell price is a display lie.
- Throwing the body into slope lava instead of the summit crater. Slope lava streams do not count.
- Casting the bucket before AR and food are ready. A wipe means recatching a whole new Bowhead.
- Standing under landings or walking back in too early. Sprint in a straight line away. Watch the follow-up before returning.
- Speed-boating so the mutated whale despawns. Stay tied to the volcano region. Lure slowly if kiting to the casino.
- Treating lava puddles as safe if you keep moving through them. They are instant fail.
- Using the boat or expedition boat as cover. It lands on the boat and you die.
