How to Fish: Earn Money Fast After Patch 1.0.4
The post-1.0.4 cash loop: Killscore trick shots, grill 1.5x multiplier, dynamite volume farming, and the correct buy order so you do not waste a session on the casino.
Goal: Get cash fast so you can buy Radar, a real gun, shotgun, then Island 3 grill, without dumping a session into roulette or selling a quest or boss item you still need. After 1.0.4 the loop is still catch to stylish kill to cook to sell. Trick-shot value and cooking beat "just fish more." A 1.0.4-only friend-in-a-box glitch was patched in 1.0.5, so do not plan a farm around it on current builds.
1First 5 Minutes on Lighthouse
- 1Pick up ground clams and anything lying around. Feed them to the island NPC.
That is the fastest legal starter cash.
- 2Buy the cheap rod (around $3) and use free lure.
Catch shrimp and crabs, sell or feed the commons immediately.
- 3Buy Radar ($10) next.
Players treat this as mandatory because later islands and bosses are painful without coordinates.
2Convert Fish Into a Weapon, Then Farm Killscore
- 1Get brass knuckles or any cheap gun as soon as you can.
How you kill the creature changes the sale price (Killscore).
- 2Practice on trash fish, not bosses.
Headshots, long-range, airborne, one-shot, no-scope, quickscope, 360. Stack those on the same kill.
- 3Keep unusual or quest-looking drops.
Selling the Spider Crab trophy or a bait-fish (Tuna for Albatross, etc.) is a common wipe of progress.
3Spider Crab, Then Leave
- 1Buy beer (around $12), feed the captain to get Empty Beer Can, lure Spider Crab with the crab rod.
- 2Kill it, hand in the trophy if that is the island quest.
Do not gamble it.
- 3Buy a boat hop toward Forest.
- 4Dynamite (around $25 after Forest) is the early volume farm.
Throw it in water, scoop floating bodies, sell the pile. Good for cash spikes, not the late-game farm.
4Forest: Piranhas and Pistol, Skip Casino
- 1Grab leeches, farm piranhas, sell in batches.
- 2Priority spend: pistol, then damage plus laser.
Melee the first bosses if you must. Do not sit on the wheel "to get rich."
- 3If you gamble at all, use 10 to 20 percent of one stack, stop after two losses.
Green is for the All-in achievement later, not for funding a shotgun.
5Island 3 (Desert): Unlock Grill, Cook Every Sale
- 1Finish the Grillmaster or Blue Shark request.
Grill is the biggest economy unlock players talk about.
- 2Hold a fish over the grill until the multiplier climbs to 1.5x, then pull it.
Leave it too long and it burns and the value tanks.
- 3Stack: high Killscore kill, grill to 1.5x, sell.
That is the consistent fast money loop after 1.0.4, not dynamite forever.
What to Buy With the Cash
- 1Radar
Coordinates make every later island and boss faster.
- 2A gun you can land trick shots with
Killscore multiplies sale value.
- 3Shotgun (around $150)
Burst damage for bosses and volume kills.
- 4Dynamite as needed, not a stockpile
Volume farm tool, not a permanent income source.
- 5First useful engine
Boat speed for island hops.
- 6Grill unlock
The 1.5x multiplier on every sale.
- 7Attachments on one main gun
Focus upgrades on a single weapon, not spread across many.
- 8Assault rifle or dual motors
Only after money is no longer the bottleneck.
Key Decisions
Common Mistakes
- Gambling before shotgun and grill. The casino is variance, not income. You lose your bankroll before the real economy unlocks.
- Selling bait-creatures or boss trophies you still need. Tuna, Bowhead, and Spider Crab shell are all required for the next step.
- Experimenting with trick shots on a summoned boss. Practice on trash fish. Bosses waste bait and time if you miss the combo.
- Burning fish on the grill. Pull at 1.5x. Leave it too long and the value tanks to near zero.
- Buying dual motors or every attachment before one reliable gun. Spread spending means no weapon is good enough to land Killscore multipliers.
- Treating dynamite as the endgame farm. It is a volume spike tool. The grill plus Killscore loop outpaces it once unlocked.
