Ascendancy: Spirit Walker

Core Goal

League-start a reliable, smooth campaign clearer into early maps without heavy investment. Twister-based builds dominate player discussions as the go-to starter due to early access, untouched scaling in 0.5, and massive boosts from the new Spirit Walker ascendancy.

1

Ascendancy & Early Choices

Take Spirit Walker on Huntress. Prioritize nodes in this order:

First

Primal Bounty + The Mhacha's Gift

Massive projectile speed + extra projectiles on dodge roll. Your main damage scaling.

Second

Vivid Stampede

Shock ground on movement. Boosts pack clear and boss uptime.

Third

Bear: Wild Protector + Sacred Unity

40% increased damage on full life + evasion while on Soaring Ground. Damage taken redirected.

Key decision: Stick to projectile/Twister scaling for a smoother start. Pivot to companion-heavy later if preferred - but Twister is the community consensus starter.
Common mistake: Delaying Owl nodes or ignoring dodge roll timing. Feathers are your primary scaling - prioritize them immediately.

Leveling & Skill Setup

The core combo is available from Act 1. Execute in this exact order:

Core Combo Rotation
  1. 1.
Whirling Slash x3 - spin up the whirlwind. Stay inside it.
  2. 2.
Twister - cast inside whirlwind to trigger empower. This is the damage spike.
  3. 3.
Barrage - extra projectiles via frenzy charges.
  4. 4.
Ice-Tipped Arrows - on cooldown for cold conversion, explosions, and chilled ground.

Support Gem Priority

Twister Supports

  • Projectile Acceleration
  • Retreat
  • Frost Nexus
  • Elemental Armament

Whirling Slash Supports

  • Rage
  • Rapid Attacks
  • Knockback

Also add as you level

Barrage, Ice-Tipped Arrows, War Banner, Freezing Mark + Charged Mark (for bosses)

Act 1 tip: Use Parry + Fangs of Frost for chilled ground bursts. Swap for Barrage/Ice-Tipped in Act 2+.
Mistake: Leaving the whirlwind before casting Twister. You lose the empower entirely.
Mistake: Over-leveling Whirling Slash. Keep gem level low to manage mana costs.
Mistake: Ignoring frenzy charges and marks on bosses. They're a significant DPS multiplier.

Gear & Defenses

Weapon Setup

Set 1 (Clear)

High attack speed spear

Skysliver or rare equivalent

Set 2 (Bossing)

Flat damage / crit scepter

Omen Sceptre from ~level 16

Stat Priority

  1. 1Life
  2. 2Resistances (cap early)
  3. 3Evasion + Deflection
  4. 4Attack Speed
  5. 5Runic Ward (if accessible)

Budget Uniques (Optional)

Black Insignia (Tailwind) Valako's Roar charm

No uniques required. Fully SSF viable.

Decision point: Attack speed on main weapon for better clear. Flat damage on swap weapon for bossing. Test both - the difference is noticeable on rares and map bosses.

Transition & Endgame

Lv 70

Respec passive tree for crit/spear if needed. Start scaling projectile count, projectile speed, cold damage, and companion scaling.

Maps

Runs comfortably into T5+ before major optimization. Players report smooth Act 1-4 progression and fast map entry with base setup.
