How the Build Works

Standard Spearfield is clunky because enemies must walk into the field to trigger spears. This build hits exactly 100% reduced skill effect duration so spears instant-pop on cast, pseudo-shotgunning massive poison stacks at once. Splinter of Lorrata removes the poison cap, Time of Need with 0 duration gives near-infinite sustain, and Bursting Decay scales flat phys off your life pool.

Core Items - Get These First
!
These three items define the build. The zero-duration mechanic does not function without Palm of the Dreamer. The unlimited poison stacks do not exist without Splinter of Lorrata.

ItemWhy It's RequiredBudget Notes
Splinter of Lorrata Hardwood Spear - grants Spear Throw, always poisons, unlimited poison stacks on a single target League market. This is the poison engine.
Palm of the Dreamer Shrine Sceptre - needs +8-13% reduced skill effect duration roll. Combined with tree nodes hits exactly 100% ~45 div for good roll. Corrupt bases can be cheaper.
Bursting Decay (x2) Rings that add flat phys damage scaled from max life. Aim for 3-4% max life rolls. Higher % max life rolls cost more. 3% is sufficient to start.
Death Articulated Gloves for life degen synergy with Berserk - enables instant max rage on bosses Required for the Berserk setup. Craft or buy.
Build-Up Steps
1
Hit 100% Reduced Skill Duration
The passive tree provides approximately 92% reduced skill effect duration (via the new reduced duration nodes in 0.5). Palm of the Dreamer must cover the remaining 8%+. Test in-game once you have both - Spearfield should pop on cast with no delay.
Less than 100% and the spears don't instant-pop. Time of Need also breaks - it requires near-zero duration to give the continuous heal intervals.
!
This is the most common setup failure. If your Spearfield still feels slow or sustain is inconsistent, check your total reduced duration in the character sheet.
2
Passive Tree Priorities
Path toward these clusters in order:
  • Reduced duration nodes (mandatory - hit 92% baseline from tree)
  • Poison magnitude and ailment magnitude nodes
  • Attack speed and spear notable clusters
  • Life and armor for tankiness
  • Jewel sockets: From Nothing + Dance with Death for extra spear notables
Anoint Lasting Trauma for shock/poison synergy. Megalomaniac jewels with armor modifiers increase tankiness at endgame.
3
Gem Setup: Mapping
Main skill (Spearfield links):
Spearfield - 6-link
Spearfield + Delayed Reaction + Rearm II + Arakaali's Lust + Deadly Poison II + Rapid Attacks II
Delayed Reaction + Rearm is mandatory - it causes the instant-pop multi-hit behavior. Arakaali's Lust adds chaos damage on poison application.
Rapid Attacks II increases the number of initial poison applications per cast. Stack as much poison magnitude as possible.
4
Gem Setup: Bossing Swap
Swap your weapon to a dedicated Thunderstorm setup for bosses:
Thunderstorm - Boss Swap
Thunderstorm + Shock Conduction II + Overcharge + Commiserate + Prolonged Duration II
Apply big shocks on the boss before dumping Spearfield poison stacks. Prolonged Duration II is not a typo here - you want the shock to last.
Shocked enemies take significantly increased damage. Pre-shocking a boss before your poison dump substantially increases total DPS.
5
Curses and Auras
Use Fox Idol in the chest slot to trigger Double Blasphemy:
  • Despair - reduces chaos resistance on enemies
  • Temporal Chains - slows enemies, keeps them in range
Take Whispers of Doom / Heightened Curse passives to apply multiple curses.
6
Gear Priorities Beyond Core Uniques
  • Amulet: Bloodstone with % max life roll
  • Helmet/Boots/Gloves: Life, armor, attack speed, poison magnitude
  • Aim for 4,000+ life minimum. Death Articulated degen + Berserk degen is manageable with Time of Need sustain
  • +Melee skills on any slot adds damage passively
+
Time of Need at 100% reduced duration heals approximately every 0.07 seconds and grants full immunity to ailments and curses. This sustain is what makes the degen from Berserk + Death Articulated manageable.
Key Decision Points
Mechanic
Duration Not at 100%
Don't start mapping until you've verified the 100% threshold. Under 100%, spears still have a duration window and won't instant-pop. The poison shotgun effect requires the full cap.
Budget
Palm Acquisition
Palm of the Dreamer is the biggest cost. A lower roll (8%) works if your tree gets you to 92%+. Buy the cheapest roll that completes the 100% threshold, upgrade later.
Ascendancy
Titan vs. Ritualist
Titan is recommended for the tankiness and sustain. Ritualist variants exist but lose defensive power. Titan's life and armor bonuses also increase Bursting Decay scaling.
Playstyle
Clear Speed Expectations
This is a relaxed smoother-mapper, not a screen-wide blaster. Strong clear via poison proliferation but not fastest in slot. If you need extreme speed, another build may suit you better.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
x
Not hitting exactly 100% reduced duration. The whole mechanic relies on this threshold. Check your character sheet before running your first map.
x
Ignoring life stacking. Bursting Decay scales flat phys damage from your max life. Low life means weak rings and weak damage output.
x
Wrong Spearfield supports. Rearm + Delayed Reaction are not interchangeable. These two specific supports create the instant-pop multi-hit behavior. Swapping them breaks the build.
x
Forgetting the weapon swap on bosses. Thunderstorm shock is how you amplify poison damage on single targets. Mapping without the swap is fine, but skipping it on bosses costs substantial DPS.
