What Is the Martyr Sacrifice?

The first player per league to reach level 100 and travel to the Site of the Chosen (behind the Origin Tower in the Fortress of the Ancients) can sacrifice their character permanently. In return, the player earns the Martyr title on the league ladder and grants +1 Passive Skill Point to every player in the same league via a claimable mote.

Players are confused about how to unlock the location, what "worthy" means, and how to claim the mote when it bugs out.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Unlock the Fortress of the Ancients

  • Defeat the Arbiter of Ash (previous pinnacle content) to open access to the central Fortress.
  • Run connected maps - use orange beams on the Atlas for Matriarch/Patriarch Halls if you need boss fragments.
  • Reach and defeat the Arbiter of Divinity in the Origin Tower. This is the new pinnacle boss required to fully access the inner areas and the waypoint behind the tower.
Community note: This takes "quite a few maps" after Ash. Focus on Atlas progression and collecting boss fragments before attempting.
2

Reach Level 100

  • Grind or race to level 100. Run high-exp map modifiers, breaches, and high-density content.
  • Prioritize survival - dying delays you significantly, and in SSF it forfeits the race.
  • Gear up fully before the sacrifice. You can unequip gear beforehand to preserve it (gear is lost in SSF regardless).
3

Travel to the Site of the Chosen

  • On the Atlas, go to the waypoint directly behind the Origin Tower (in the Fortress area - run straight and right from the tower entrance).
  • Enter the chamber/monolith when prompted.
  • A message will test your resolve: "Your strength is unquestioned... Are you ready, Martyr?" - it explicitly warns the character will be permanently destroyed.
4

Confirm the Sacrifice

  • Only level 100 characters are worthy - sub-100 characters are rejected.
  • Confirm the sacrifice - your character is permanently deleted.
  • You receive the Martyr title on the league ladder, immortalized as the first sacrifice.
This is irreversible. The character is gone. Make sure you are the first in the league - only one Martyr per league is recognized.
5

Claim the +1 Passive Point (for everyone)

  • Teleport to the Site of the Chosen (same waypoint location).
  • Interact with the glowing Mote of the Martyr's Power.
  • If nothing appears: restart your client, try a different gateway/server (Frankfurt worked for many players), or force a new instance (Ctrl-click the waypoint).
Bug note: The mote can lag on rollout. It resolves quickly - try a server/gateway switch before assuming it is unavailable.

Key Decision Points

Which League to Target?

Only one Martyr per league (the first level 100 who sacrifices). Decide if racing for the title is worth deleting a fully geared lvl 100. SSF Standard and league ladders (e.g. Runes of Aldur SC) each have their own Martyr.

Sacrifice Geared or Naked?

Gear is lost in SSF, but you can unequip before confirming to preserve items on non-SSF. Most racers sacrifice fully geared for the title - the prestige is the point.

Race Hard vs. Play Safe?

Push exp hard with high-mod maps and dense mechanics, but never sacrifice survivability. One death at high level costs hours. Group play (where allowed) speeds up the race.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not progressing Atlas far enough - you cannot reach the Site of the Chosen without defeating the Arbiter of Divinity first.

Attempting the sacrifice below level 100 - the monolith will reject you instantly. No partial credit.

Giving up on the mote claim - rollout lag is common. Try client restart, different gateway/server, or Ctrl-click the waypoint for a fresh instance.

Expecting the mote to be available immediately in every instance - the buff is league-wide but can lag. It resolves quickly across most gateways.
