Path of Exile 2
Divinity Blood Mage Ball Lightning Build
Infinite Lightning Warp loop, massive life regen via Divinity synergy, and 1-2 button clear. Complete setup covering ascendancy, skill loop, gear priorities, and survival mechanics.
Build Type: Spellcaster
Ascendancy: Blood Mage
Playstyle: Zoom / Loop
Budget: 60+ divines endgame
Core Goal
Cast Ball Lightning, Lightning Warp onto the balls, trigger Cast on Critical for more balls - creating an infinite warp loop that clears screens while flickering across the map. Survival comes from massive life regen via Tecrod's Undying Hate scaling with recent life spent.
01
Ascendancy and Core Setup
-
Take Blood Mage ascendancy for high crit, extra life, and life-cost synergies. The three uniques that make this build work are:
- Atalui's Bloodletting in Lightning Warp - massive damage based on life cost plus full mana-to-life conversion
- Tecrod's Undying Hate - Sacrifice of Blood regen scales with recent life spent. This is your primary survival engine.
- Rathpith Globe - boosts crit and spell damage, increases life cost which feeds more damage and regen
-
Use Life Tap on your secondary skills. This converts mana costs to life costs, feeding Tecrod regen from all casting, not just Lightning Warp.
02
The Mapping Loop - Skill Engine
The loop: Cast Ball Lightning near packs - Lightning Warp onto the balls - CoC triggers Arc and more Ball Lightning on crits - chain more Warps. You ride the Ball Lightning wave across the map.
-
Cast Ball Lightning at or near packs. Supports: Wild Shard or Nova for more projectiles, or Spellslinger for auto-triggers. More balls means more warp targets.
-
Immediately Lightning Warp onto the Ball Lightning projectiles or enemies in culling range. The Warp kills or culls, triggering crits.
-
Cast on Critical (CoC) triggers Arc and additional Ball Lightning on crits - generating more balls to warp to, sustaining the loop. For tight spots, manually cast Ball Lightning to restart the chain.
-
For bosses, add Sigil of Power plus optional Mana Tempest or Orb of Storms via Spellslinger to sustain the damage window.
03
Defense and Sustain Ramp
-
Stack high Energy Shield as mana via Eldritch Battery or Mind over Matter, plus life and resistances. Your ES/mana buffer absorbs hits during the brief life yoyo between casts.
-
Mana Remnants plus mana on kill refill your mana buffer continuously during mapping. This keeps the ES/mana layer full so life spikes don't kill you.
-
Ramp Tecrod regen before big pulls. Cast several times before charging into a large pack. The regen multiplies with the amount of life recently spent - no ramp means you die to the life cost burst.
-
Prioritize AoE and projectile speed on passive tree, jewels, and supports. Faster balls travel further, chain more reliably, and keep you safer by clearing at range.
04
Gear Priorities
Wand
+Lightning spell levels, crit, cast speed
Core damage driver - prioritize over other slots early
Body / Helm / Boots
High ES/life, resistances, movespeed
Resistances capped, movespeed on boots mandatory
Gloves
Atziri's Acuity
Early ramp and crit generation - use until endgame
Jewels
Crit chance/multi, AoE, spell damage
AoE is as important as raw damage for chain reliability
Key Unique
Rathpith Globe (shield)
High life cost = more damage + more regen. Get this first.
Budget Path
Skip uniques, focus lightning penetration
Budget version clears fine. Scale to ~60 divines for smooth endgame.
05
Leveling and Transition
Community consensus: Do not try to level as Blood Mage Ball Lightning from the start. The life-cost mechanics and unique requirements make early campaign brutal without the specific items.
-
Start the campaign with a different Witch skill - cold skills or Essence Drain work well. Play through the campaign and accumulate currency.
-
Begin the respec transition once you have Tecrod's Undying Hate and Atalui's Bloodletting. Both are required for the build to function - without them the life-cost loop kills you faster than enemies.
-
Acquire Rathpith Globe last. The increased life cost it adds requires your regen to already be established before equipping it safely.
Key Decision Points
Projectile Speed vs. Slow Projectiles support?
Higher speed for mapping - faster ball travel means faster chaining and better zoom. Slower for single-target bossing where balls linger on the boss. Most players stick to speed and don't swap - the fun factor outweighs the bossing loss.
CoC Setup - Ball Lightning or Arc?
Ball Lightning in CoC for more balls and more warp targets - this is the preferred loop setup. Arc is a solid alternative for clear in tough content like Simulacrum where ball chaining is unreliable.
Divinity mechanic integration?
The Divinity interaction with Blood Mage/Archmage sustain adds extra synergy but is not core to the build functioning. Get your life-cost ramp established first, then layer in Divinity as an upgrade once you are comfortable with the survival loop.
Ballcano variant (Ball Lightning + Volcano)?
Strong alternative that adds fire-infused omnidirectional clear and better bossing. Less pure zoom than the standard Warp build. Choose Ballcano if you want better single-target; choose standard if you want maximum map clear speed.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting Tecrod regen ramp before big packs. You must cast several times before charging in or the life costs spike above your regen and you die instantly.
- Warping directly onto bosses instead of onto your balls. Always stand back, aim Ball Lightning through or to the side of the boss, then Warp to the ball position - not directly to the boss hitbox.
- Low AoE or projectile speed causing poor chaining. If balls are not reaching the next pack the loop breaks and you get overrun in tight corridor maps.
- Ignoring the mana/ES buffer. If your ES is empty when the life yoyo spikes, there is no safety window and you die before regen kicks in.
- Tight-corner maps without restarting manually. When you lose the ball chain in a corner, stop and manually cast Ball Lightning to restart rather than panicking and warping blind.
