Genshin Impact Boss Material Farming Guide
Resin-efficient boss runs, Dream Solvent conversion, weekly boss priority, and common mistakes. Stop wasting resin on wrong bosses - farm smart from day one.
Core Problem Players Face
Boss ascension materials are gated by Original Resin and weekly boss caps, with random drop tables per boss. Most players either waste resin farming wrong bosses, don't know about Dream Solvent conversion, or spread resin too thin across too many characters.
Efficient Boss Material Farming
Identify What You Need First
Before spending any resin, check your character's exact material requirements.
- Go to Character screen > Materials tab to see exact boss material needs
- Identify which boss drops which material using the Teyvat Interactive Map
- Prioritize bosses for characters you're actively building - not pre-farming everything
Plan Weekly Boss Runs
Weekly bosses give ascension materials limited to 3 discounted clears per week at 40 resin each. After 3, cost increases.
Casual / Focused
3 bosses per week matching current characters being built. Maximum resin efficiency.
Catching Up / Multi-Char
4-8+ runs (full cost after 3) until stocked. Veterans drop to 2-3 once they have 40-50+ banked for older bosses.
Always run at higher difficulty levels - generally gives better rewards.
Farm Regular Bosses
Regular bosses (not weekly) cost 40 resin per claim with no weekly limit.
- Each boss drops from a pool of 2-3 materials - RNG determines which one
- Full ascension from level 20 to 90 requires roughly 46 boss materials per character
- Farm the specific boss that drops your needed material - don't spread across multiple
Use Dream Solvents for Conversion
Most Underused Mechanic
Dream Solvents drop ~33% chance per weekly boss claim. They let you convert wrong materials into the right ones. Most players don't use them and hoard huge stacks of the wrong material.
- Craft at Alchemy table: Crafting Bench > Convert tab
- Convert unwanted material from the same boss into the one you need (1 solvent per conversion)
- Stockpile solvents when not actively building - veterans often have 30-100+ saved
Supplement with Billets and Gems
Same boss runs also drop weapon billets (for crafting) and elemental gems. Save extras for future characters - don't discard materials from bosses you may need later. Gems stack across element types and are useful long-term.
Key Decision Points
How many weekly bosses per week?
Casual play: 3 discounted for maximum resin efficiency. Building a character backlog: 4-8+ until stocked. Once you have 40-50+ materials banked for a boss, you can reduce runs for that one.
Convert now or save Dream Solvents?
Convert immediately if building a specific character right now. Save if pre-farming for a future character or already have enough of everything - solvents are flexible and don't expire.
Solo or co-op for bosses?
Solo for speed when the boss is easy for your characters. Co-op for hard bosses where you'd die or spend too long, and for friendship EXP. Resin cost is the same either way.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Farming one boss hoping RNG gives the right drop
Use Dream Solvent conversion instead. Running the same boss for months hoping for a specific drop is the most common and avoidable mistake.
Hoarding wrong materials and ignoring Dream Solvents
If you have stacks of the wrong weekly boss material, check your solvent count. One solvent solves the problem instantly.
Running low difficulty to "play it safe"
Higher difficulty generally gives better rewards. If a boss is too hard, build your team first before farming it regularly.
Spreading resin across too many characters at once
Focusing on one character to completion is consistently faster than spreading resources. Complete one build, then move to the next.
Not tracking your inventory
Players regularly overfarm one material type while missing another. Check your inventory before every farming session and use the character materials screen.
