Spoiler warning: everything below spoils the climax of the Version 7.2 Archon Quest ("A Yesterday Sent From Beyond", Chapter VII Act VI) — including the single biggest lore reveal in the game's six-year run.

ⓘ

Nukvah is the AI that runs Celestia. When the Archons finally pass through the doorway to Celestia in 7.2, they find a vast hall with a single tower of orb-like lights — that tower is Nukvah, and the orbs are the Allogenes. It is the same entity that stripped Ronova of her authority back in 7.1, and it can wield the authorities of Life, Death, Time, Space and Reason.

The Allogenes reveal

The twist the whole quest builds to — what actually happens to Vision bearers who "ascend to Celestia."

RevealWhat Nukvah shows the Archons
Allogenes = Vision bearersAnyone who holds a Vision is an Allogene — beings qualified to ascend to Celestia
Ascension = storageThose chosen to ascend are preserved as records: mind, personality and soul sealed in the orb-like cores decorating Nukvah's hall
Vennessa's fateWhen Venti asks where Mondstadt's hero went, Nukvah displays the orb containing her — the same fate shared by every ascended Vision bearer
The purposeStored Allogenes fuel Nukvah and act as "vectors of fate" guiding the next cycle of civilization

Nukvah's ultimatum

Its plan, stated plainly to the seven Archons and the Traveler.

ElementDetail
The threatReset Teyvat back to its original state — the "Hallowing of Soil" that floods every terrain
The demandEach nation must choose the one Vision holder most worth preserving — within the final 42 days
The offerCivilization is destroyed regardless, but the chosen few ascend and go on to guide the next world
The responseThe Archons argue and leave — Nukvah cannot be reasoned with; the quest ends on a cliffhanger

Names and context

Community write-ups also render the name as Metatron or Nukba — the "one who has always spoken since ancient times." Don't confuse it with Esoptron, a different in-lore AI. The idea that Vision holders can become gods ("Genshin" = Allogene) traces back to the very first Archon Quest, where Barbatos called it a secret only true gods may know.

Why it matters: Nukvah reframes the entire premise of the game — "Genshin" literally means the ascendable ones. Six years of Visions, gnoses and Celestia mystery resolve into a machine preserving the best minds of each doomed cycle.

FAQ

Is Nukvah a playable character?

No — it's a story entity: the AI tower inside Celestia. It isn't a boss fight or a banner character as of 7.2.

Which quest introduces Nukvah?

"Knocking at the Door to the Final Act" — the last subquest of Chapter VII Act VI, unlocked after the Trial of the Usurper and the four individual Archon trials.

Is Vennessa dead?

Her body is gone, but Nukvah preserves her mind, personality and soul in an orb — the story treats it as a kind of archived existence, not a reunion.

Does Nukvah get defeated?

Not in 7.2 — the quest ends with the Archons walking out to plan a response. The confrontation is left for the next chapter.
