Fastest repeatable method to farm high-stat Tier 5 armor in Destiny 2. Master Lost Sector loop, Postmaster convert trick for meta sets, engram inventory management, and focusing workarounds.
Efficiently farm high-stat Tier 5 armor pieces, especially meta sets with strong 2/4-piece bonuses like Smoke Jumper, Ferropotent, Techsec, Thunderhead, and First Ascent, without relying on slow weekly featured content or waiting for distortions.
Preparation (Once Per Character)
- Reach at least 450 Power. Higher Power improves T5 consistency and focusing quality. Campaigns, featured activities, and seasonal hub ranks help climb quickly.
- Equip a Ghost mod that focuses the armor stats you want. Note: direct Lost Sector drops often ignore Ghost focusing. Use the Postmaster workaround below.
- Fill your 10 engram inventory slots with Bright, Exotic, or Eververse engrams. Master Lost Sectors drop Exotic engrams frequently, so this fills fast while farming.
- Optionally fill specific armor slots on your character (e.g. 9+ unequipped chest pieces) if targeting destination-set focusing via Postmaster.
- Choose a fast Master Lost Sector from the daily rotation. Community favorites: The Conflux (Nessus), Aphelion's Rest (Dreaming City). Runs under 1-2 minutes are common once optimized.
Core Farming Loop: Destination T5 Armor
Load into the Master difficulty Lost Sector on the planet whose set you want. Master is required for reliable T5 drops. Expert tends toward T4.
Clear champions and complete for Platinum. You get T5 armor of the destination set plus often a weapon or secondary drop. Full fireteams still receive personal T5 armor drops.
Repeat. Inventory fills with engrams quickly. Excess Legendary armor engrams go to Postmaster.
For Thunderhead (Neomuna) or First Ascent (Pale Heart): Farm any Master Lost Sector with full engram inventory so drops become Postmaster engrams. Travel to the corresponding destination Postmaster and decrypt there. The engrams convert to that set's T5 pieces. Under-1-minute sectors make this extremely fast.
Postmaster Convert Method: Meta PvE Sets
For Smoke Jumper, Ferropotent, and Techsec sets, use this community-discovered convert trick:
Fill engram inventory completely. All 10 slots must be full before starting.
Run any Master Lost Sector. Armor drops become Legendary engrams at the Postmaster instead of the local destination set.
Decrypt Postmaster engrams at the Tower. They consistently become T5 Smoke Jumper, Ferropotent, or Techsec pieces. You also still receive normal T3/T4 alongside in many reports.
Farm the absolute fastest sector available that day while keeping engrams full. Players report stacking multiple characters' engram inventories for longer sessions.
Farm sessions of 1-2 hours routinely yield full usable sets according to community reports. Shard junk rolls and keep pieces with the best stats and set bonuses.
Focusing Workaround for Destination Sets
When Ghost mods fail on direct T5 Lost Sector drops, use this method:
Keep engram slots open. Do not fill them for this method.
Fill the specific armor inventory slots on your character. For example, load up on helmets if you need focused helmets. This forces decrypted pieces to route to Postmaster.
Run Master Lost Sectors for the desired planet's set. The Postmaster version appears to respect Ghost focusing better in community testing, with higher hit rate on desired archetype. Pull from Postmaster and evaluate.
Key Decision Points
- Which set? Destination sets: farm that planet's Master Lost Sector or use location-specific Postmaster decrypt. Meta 2-piece sets (Smoke Jumper, Ferropotent, Techsec): full-engram Postmaster convert on any fast Master sector.
- Solo vs fireteam? Both work for personal T5 armor drops. Fireteam can speed clears or share the load.
- Power level? Below 450 you get fewer and less consistent T5 drops. Above 500 focusing improves. Master Lost Sectors scale and still deliver T5.
- Speed vs volume? Prioritize the day's shortest Master sector. Fill engrams first if converting, then spam runs.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Running Expert instead of Master. Expert loses the T5 guarantee.
- Letting inventory have empty engram slots when trying the convert method. Drops stay as destination pieces instead of converting.
- Ignoring Postmaster. Many T5 pieces end up there.
- Expecting Ghost focusing to always work on direct T5 Lost Sector drops. Use the full-armor-slot Postmaster route instead.
- Skipping champions or failing Platinum. This hurts drop quality and quantity.
- Farming non-Lost Sector activities expecting the same convert behavior. Public events, Terminal Overload, and others drop normally and do not become convertible engrams.
