Deadlock Viper (Vyper) Abilities and Playstyle
Viper (Vyper) feels strong in lane then does nothing after 15 minutes. Stay in the slide loop, chip to execute range, Lethal Venom on low targets, and play cleanup, not frontliner.
Core problem: Viper (often called Vyper) feels strong in lane then does nothing after 15 to 20 minutes. She has short gun range, a tiny magazine unless she's sliding, and Lethal Venom only pops hard on already-hurt targets. The goal is to stay in a slide, chip people to execute range, then finish isolated or fleeing targets, not stand and brawl like a normal carry.
What Her Kit Actually Does
Poke plus stacking slow. Use it to start trades, last-hit, and keep someone in gun range. Stack the same target.
Delayed execute that scales with missing HP. Dump it when they're already low (60 percent or less). Reapply refreshes the timer. Later upgrades let bullets help build it.
Longer slides, slide up hills, tighter turns. This is her identity. Sliding is how you keep firing without reloading.
Skill-shot interrupt and lock. Direct hit petrifies (they block most damage but can't act). Use it to stop an ult, pin a runner, or set up Venom so it detonates as petrify ends. Don't drop it on a full-HP tank in the middle of your team's burst.
1Rebind Before You Queue
- 1Put slide or crouch on a mouse button (many use RMB or a side button).
- 2Put Lethal Venom on instant cast.
You need to slide and inject without taking your hand off movement. Pinky-Ctrl all game is why people quit her.
2Lane: Dagger First, Then Venom, Then Slither
- 1Open with Dagger for poke and last hits.
- 2First or second AP into Venom so a half-HP target is a kill.
- 3Don't sit still. Slide across the wave, spray, dagger, Venom when they're chunked, slide out.
- 4Gank other lanes around buff or sinner timers once Venom plus ult are online.
She's better at collapsing than endless AFK farm.
3Mid Game: You Are Cleanup, Not Frontliner
Orbit the fight. Watch health bars. When someone turns to run or drops low: slide in from an angle, stack daggers, Venom, Bola if they still have an escape or ult. Get out. Repeat. After lane, farm and hold a side lane until your gun items come online. Forcing 5v5 instantly is how she falls off.
4Stay in the Slide Loop
- 1Dash then tap slide. Use ramps and hills. She doesn't lose speed going up.
- 2Mantle-slide (hold slide while climbing) for free speed.
- 3Burst Fire (and often Fleetfoot) is what players treat as mandatory
so the slide lasts and fire rate stays high. Without sliding you empty 24 rounds in 1.5 seconds and become useless.
5Item Mindset
Gun plus vitality first, a little spirit (Venom and move speed scale). Common early: Opening Rounds, Close Quarters, Rapid Rounds, then Burst Fire, Fleetfoot, Quicksilver Reload on dagger. Later: Lucky Shot, Point Blank, lifesteal, Unstoppable if the lobby is full of stuns. Don't dump every slot into spirit unless you're specifically playing early dagger or Venom tempo.
Key Decisions
- Venom now or keep shooting? If they're still healthy, keep sliding and shooting. Venom on a full HP hero is a wasted cooldown.
- Ult on whom? Low target trying to leave, or someone winding an interruptible ult (Lash, Bebop, Haze, Ivy in air). Not whoever is closest.
- Dive or split? If they have knockups or hard CC (Dynamo, Lash, Mo, Billy, Paige), don't hard commit the 5-man. Split, steal, pick off. If they don't, you can take the backline.
- Fight this 1v1? Only if you can stay sliding and they can't stun you mid-slide. Late-game fed Viper wins most raw 1v1s. Early tanks eat her.
Common Mistakes
- Standing still and treating her like Ivy or Wraith at mid range. Her spread and falloff want 15m or closer.
- Venom on full HP, then wondering why it does nothing.
- Bola on a target your team is about to burst. Petrify blocks their damage.
- Maxing everything evenly instead of finishing key tiers. Venom for early kills, Slither for survive and slide, then ult.
- Burning all stamina on dashes with no slide or jump. She needs stamina in the tank to leave.
- Forcing teamfights the second lane ends instead of farming into her gun spike.
