Core change from old DMZ: DMZ is back as a paid, full extraction mode inside MW4 (not a free Warzone add-on). You drop into Hajin, loot and complete objectives, and only keep what you extract. The biggest decisions are which playlist to queue, how to manage your FOB progression, and when to go loud vs stay quiet.

1Choose Your Playlist Before You Drop

Best first choice
Story Missions
Crafted objective at a specific POI (vault raid, hospital abduction, stealth infiltrate). Matchmade with other squads on the same mission. Decide: team up or fight them. Use this to learn POIs and the narrative.
Once you know the map
Dynamic Operations
Randomized multi-step contracts (blow a missile, download intel then destroy servers, kill an HVT). Steps change every match. Good for cash and XP loops when you want contracts all night.
Highest PvP risk
Free Roam
No assigned goal. Loot, hunt players, chase Lieutenants, hit Side Ops (repair UAV trucks, radio towers, supply drops). Use after you have Rescue Packs and FOB stations unlocked.
How to choose: new or returning from old DMZ, start with Story Missions until you know Hospital, Military Base, Casino, and Fallout. Want contracts all night, go Dynamic Ops. Want PvP and bounty hunting, go Free Roam.

2FOB Is Your Real Progression

Operator death is not a full wipe, but it is expensive. If you die, that operator is MIA. Spend cash at the FOB to send a rescue team. Higher operator level means higher rescue cost. You keep XP and traits on a failed extract, but successful extracts are faster.

3In-Zone Rules Players Keep Repeating

4Map POIs to Learn First

Hajin City
Casino (high loot)
Fallout (radiation)
Hospital
Military Base (hardest)
Farmlands
Prison
Broadcast
Town / Dead Town
Practice now: Ground War on Hajin slices is the closest practice available before launch. Use it to learn sightlines. Full DMZ mode launches with MW4 on October 23, 2026.
