Call of Duty MW4 DMZ Mode Guide
DMZ returns as a paid extraction mode inside MW4, not a free Warzone add-on. Drop into Hajin, loot, complete objectives, and only keep what you extract. Here are playlist choices, FOB progression, stealth rules, and launch week strategy.
Core change from old DMZ: DMZ is back as a paid, full extraction mode inside MW4 (not a free Warzone add-on). You drop into Hajin, loot and complete objectives, and only keep what you extract. The biggest decisions are which playlist to queue, how to manage your FOB progression, and when to go loud vs stay quiet.
1Choose Your Playlist Before You Drop
2FOB Is Your Real Progression
-
1
Extract anything cheap and consistent first
Do not take your best kit. Fund the first FOB stations with low-risk extracts.
-
2
Print a plate carrier and extra bag space
As soon as the 3D Printer unlocks, prioritize survivability and carrying capacity.
-
3
Buy a Rescue Pack before taking expensive loot
Cost scales with kit quality. Paid with in-game cash only. This is your insurance against operator death.
-
4
Keep two operators: one cheap, one main
Use the cheap one for risky Free Roam and the main one for Story and Dynamic Ops. One wipe should not delete your best kit and traits.
3In-Zone Rules Players Keep Repeating
- Stealth first. New detection system gives audio and visual cues when AI spots you. Going loud raises a threat meter that brings reinforcements and Deathstalkers. Fade into woods or farmlands to reset.
- Tourniquet buys one last fight. If you have no self-revive, a tourniquet lets you crawl. You still need a medkit for a full stand-up. Drag-revive teammates while moving.
- Assimilation is capped at one extra player. Squad of 4 max. Do not expect old DMZ 6-man trains.
- Bounty system. Stacking player kills puts a bounty on you. Other squads get paid to hunt you. If you are farming Story Missions, avoid PvP kills unless you want the heat.
- Weather and radiation. Rain, fog, snow, and wind worsen over the match. Fallout POI and reactor areas need masks. Night runs need printed NVGs.
- Lobby size: ~20 squads of 3 (60 players). Matchmaking prefers matching squad size.
4Map POIs to Learn First
5Launch Week Play Loop
- 1FOB: cheapest viable kit plus Rescue Pack if you can afford it.
- 2Queue Story Missions.
- 3Play stealth until the objective building, then decide team-up vs fight.
- 4Extract early with materials and cash rather than greed a second POI.
- 5Unlock printer and stash, then start Dynamic Ops.
- 6Only then take Free Roam or hunt Wanted players.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Treating it like old F2P DMZ or Warzone. This is inside the $70 MW4 box. No Warzone integration at launch.
- Queueing Free Roam with your only leveled operator and no Rescue Pack. You are one death away from an expensive rescue.
- Going loud on Story Missions when other squads are on the same objective. You either cooperate or fight a lobby that all spawned for the same building.
- Dumping cash into one operator's traits before you can pay MIA rescue. Rotate operators so one wipe does not delete your best kit.
- Ignoring Side Ops. Repairable UAV trucks and towers are low-commitment value if a Story beat goes sideways.
- Assuming assimilation still scales to 6. It does not. Squad of 4 max.
