Call of Duty MW4 Campaign Early Access October 16 Guide
Secure and play the full MW4 campaign starting October 16, one week before the October 23 launch. Digital pre-order steps, edition choices, and mistakes to avoid.
Secure and actually play the full MW4 campaign starting October 16, 2026 (one week before the October 23 full launch), instead of waiting with everyone else or getting locked out.
→Steps to Get Campaign Early Access
-
1
Pre-order or pre-purchase a digital copy.
Buy the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition on your platform store (PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, Battle.net). Both editions unlock the campaign. Vault adds extra operators, weapons, BlackCell, and a DMZ bonus. Physical/disc copies do NOT get early access.
-
2
Confirm the purchase shows as pre-ordered or owned in your library.
Check your library or transaction history. Late digital pre-orders have worked in prior MW early-access campaigns, so do not panic if you are close to the date.
-
3
Watch for the official preload window.
Historically the preload opens 1–2 days before campaign start, often around 10 AM PT. Download the campaign files as soon as they appear so you are ready on October 16.
-
4
On October 16, launch the game.
Only the campaign will be available. Multiplayer, DMZ, and the rest of the modes stay locked until October 23. Do not expect anything beyond the single-player campaign during early-access week.
-
5
Play offline if you want.
Community reports from the beta suggest the full campaign should work without an always-online connection. You can play solo without worrying about server status.
?Key Decisions
-
1
Standard vs Vault Edition.
Standard if you only want the campaign a week early. Vault if you also want cosmetic packs, extra operators, weapons, BlackCell, and a DMZ bonus. The campaign week is identical in both.
-
2
Digital vs physical.
Digital only for early access. There is no physical path to the October 16 campaign. If you prefer discs, you wait until October 23 with everyone else.
-
3
Game Pass.
MW4 is not day-one Game Pass. A Game Pass subscription does not grant the campaign early-access week. You need a direct digital purchase.
-
4
Platform choice.
PS5, Xbox Series, Steam, and Battle.net have pre-orders live. Switch 2 is delayed, so do not plan on a Switch 2 campaign playthrough for October 16.
✕Common Mistakes
- Buying a physical copy expecting early access. Disc copies do not unlock the campaign on October 16. Only digital pre-orders do.
- Assuming Game Pass or a late physical pre-order will work. Game Pass is not day-one for MW4, and physical has no early-access path at all.
- Waiting until October 15 to pre-order and discovering a long download. Preload early so October 16 is playtime, not install time.
- Expecting multiplayer or DMZ during early-access week. Only the campaign is live from October 16. Everything else unlocks October 23.
- Forgetting to preload. The preload window opens 1–2 days early. Miss it and you spend launch day downloading.
