Goal: Start the game as soon as it unlocks on your platform, claim both launch bonuses (demo charm plus early-adopter cosmetics), pick the right difficulty, and lock in Issen and parry timing before the first real boss.

1Know Your Exact Unlock Time

1PC vs Console Unlock Schedule

PC is a simultaneous global unlock. Consoles are generally midnight local time, with exceptions.

RegionUnlock Time
US West (PDT)Thursday Sept 3, 9:00 PM
US East (EDT)Friday Sept 4, 12:00 AM
UK (BST)Friday 5:00 AM on PC / midnight local on console
Japan (JST)Friday 1:00 PM on PC / midnight local on console
Australia East (AEST)Friday 2:00 PM on PC / midnight local on console
Key: West Coast players can start Thursday night. PC players east of US Eastern wait until the global PC timestamp, not local midnight. Preload if you have not already.

2Claim the Two Bonuses Before You Start

Demo Charm (Kubi Akari)

You do not need to finish the demo. You only need a demo save file still on the same platform or account. Progress does not carry over. The updated demo added no extra reward.

Keep the save. Do not delete the demo until the full game has granted the charm.

Early Adopter Bonus (Replaced the Old Pre-Order Bonus)

Buy digitally by the old date window:

  • 1
Consoles, Switch 2, Microsoft Store: through September 24, 11:59 PM local
  • 2
Steam, Epic: through September 25, 4:59 PM PDT

Standard: Lion Dog charm plus Sealed Curse sword cosmetic. Deluxe or Premium Deluxe: add White Monkey charm plus White Lion sword look. Buying after those cutoffs means you miss them. Physical Switch 2 buyers were told digital pre-orders on that platform were cancelled and needed a new purchase to stay in the window.

3First-Session Setup

3Difficulty and Controls
  • 1
Start on Story if you are new or rusty.

Reviewers and players who finished the game say start here to learn attack timing, then raise difficulty. Action is the intended first-play challenge. Carnage is locked behind NG+.

  • 2
Choose the control layout that matches how you fight: Offensive vs Defensive.

Demo players said this is not cosmetic; it changes how comfortable parry and Issen feel.

  • 3
    Rest at altars to save.

Resting respawns enemies. Dying sends you back to the last altar.

4Combat Decisions That Matter Immediately

4Issen Timing
  • 1
Press attack at the last possible moment, just as the enemy weapon is about to connect.

    Not when the swing starts.

  • 2
If you see your own attack animation start first, you were early.

  • 3
Missed Issen means you get hit. Missed deflect still usually becomes a block.

    Practice on fodder first.

  • 4
Chain parries to enter Blaze or Ki-en state.

More sword damage and more blue souls for magic recovery. Parrying while already in Blaze can refill the gauge.

Key choice: Farm Issen on weak Genma in the opening Kyoto or temple stretch before you treat bosses like a DPS check. Demo and review players say later bosses punish people who only mash and never learned the window.
