Onimusha Way of the Sword Chain Issen Multi-Target
Wipe a cluster of regular enemies with Chain Issen instead of fighting them one-by-one. Here is the True Issen start, the flash cue timing, pack herding, and the mistakes that kill the chain.
Chain Issen only starts from a True Issen (attack button a fraction of a second before an enemy strike hits you). It does not start from a parry, dodge, or stamina-break execution. Nearby enemies must exist. In the demo many players cap at 3 hits, and the last one often goes cinematic and ends the chain. Bosses generally cannot be chained this way.
1Step-by-Step
-
1
Herd or stand in a group
Get 2-3 regular Genma close together. If the next target is too far, Musashi will not jump. Players who try this on isolated enemies waste the first Issen.
-
2
Land a True Issen on the first enemy
Press attack just before their weapon connects. Late enough that you would have been hit, early enough that your own swing never starts. If you see your attack animation start, you were too early. If you take the hit, you were too late. Overhead slashes are the easiest practice target.
-
3
Watch the blade flash, then tap attack again
The moment the first Issen slash lands, Musashi's blade lights up and a white slash line appears. Press attack on that flash. A nearby enemy should get a red marker. That is the chain target. Do not mash before the first slash actually connects.
-
4
Repeat on the next flash
When the second Issen connects and the blade lights again, tap attack once more. Musashi picks a third nearby enemy. In current builds the third hit often becomes a run-up cinematic finish and the chain stops. Official footage has shown longer chains, so later upgrades may raise the cap.
-
5
Keep enemies in range between hits
The follow-up is a short dash, not the old instant flash-step. If the pack spreads out mid-chain, it dies.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Starting from a parry or dodge instead of a last-second attack. Chain Issen only starts from a True Issen.
- Pressing the follow-up before the first slash lands. Wait for the blade flash.
- Trying it on bosses or on a lone enemy. Bosses generally cannot be chained. Isolated enemies waste the first Issen.
- Standing too close on the opening Issen. Some swings clip you first.
- Expecting auto-chain from a charged sword like Onimusha 2. That auto version is not in the current build. Every extra hit needs its own tap.
