Core goal: survive the duel at Kiyomizu, break his stance, and finish him without emptying your stamina or eating a late-phase grab. He shrugs off normal damage, uses feints and odd distance, and punishes people who treat this like a Souls boss. Watch first, parry while you learn his rhythm, then punish hard.

1Choose Your Defensive Lane

Highest damage
Parry Main (L1 / LB)
Time L1 as his swing lands. Successful parries boost your damage and cancel follow-ups. Highest risk if you mistime.
Safer grind
Deflect Main (L1 + Attack)
Hold L1 plus attack. Builds stagger, swats projectiles, more forgiving than raw parry.
Works, slower
Dodge Main
Perfect dodge is required for his grab. Slower fight than parry but consistent.
Tightest, biggest payoff
Issen
Press attack at the exact moment his blade would hit you. Tighter than a normal parry. His sword glow and overhead are the easiest Issen windows.
Do not mix lanes mid-combo. Players who try parry plus deflect plus Issen plus Oni Armament at the same time get deleted. Pick one and stay on it.
