Gothic 1 Remake Farming Routes Early Game

Core problem players face: The early game in Gothic 1 Remake is punishing. You start weak, enemies hit hard, maps are confusing without buying one, and you need Ore (nuggets) fast for training (1H combat, lockpicking), weapons, and armor. Players want safe, repeatable ways to gain XP and money without dying constantly, via looting, escorts, selling loot, and minimal combat risk.

Step 1: Reach Old Camp and Prioritize Basics

Stick with Diego and pick up everything
Pickaxe works as a starter weapon. Grab loose nuggets near wagon debris and the old sword under the hanged man. Talk to everyone named and do easy quests.

Learn lockpicking ASAP from Fingers
Go left from Thorus gate, follow the inner road by castle walls behind Snaf. Lockpicking unlocks chests everywhere for quick Ore. This is the single most important early skill.

Buy a map
Dexter is cheaper than Graham. Do not skip this. The world is confusing without a map and you will waste time getting lost.

Step 2: Escort Routes for Safe XP

Escorts are the biggest early XP and money enablers. The escort kills monsters while you tag along for full XP. This gets you 2-3 levels quickly with low risk.

Highest Priority Escort

Mordrag to Old Camp or New Camp

Why: Mordrag kills monsters along the route, you get full XP for each kill. Safe travel to either camp. Do this first for early levels.

Swamp Camp Route

Baal Parvez to Swamp Camp

Why: Different path means different monsters and more XP. Explore lightly along the way but let the escort handle fights. Unlocks Swamp Camp quests.

New Camp Route

Drax to New Camp

Why: Drax is found near the north gate of Old Camp, close to the starting road. Another path with more monsters and nearby NPCs. Combine with Mordrag route for maximum early XP.

Step 3: Loot and Sell Aggressively

Loot every chest with lockpicking
Chests are the key money source in early game. Every camp and path has chests. Open them all.

Sell spare weapons to Cipher
Cipher in New Camp is the best early merchant. Sell spare weapons from goblin kills and chest loot. Goblin maces sell for ~47-50 Ore each.

Pick up everything: junk, herbs, mushrooms, plates
Inventory space is not a big issue early. Everything sells. Swampweed from sect areas sells well in New Camp for big Ore chunks (~300+ quickly).

Rotate merchants when selling
Selling too many of one item to one vendor causes prices to tank. Spread sales across multiple merchants for maximum Ore.

Explore caves and paths around camps
Loose nuggets and easy loot are scattered around. Explore caves near camps for free Ore and items with minimal combat risk.

Step 4: Combat Fundamentals and Skill Priority

Spend first 10 LP on 1H from Scatty
Makes fights fluid with Q/E attacks. This is the single most important combat investment. Do it before anything else.

Learn dodge and acrobatics early
Available in New Camp mine area. Dodge keeps you alive, acrobatics prevents fall damage and opens new paths.

Pull one enemy at a time
Walk slowly to aggro just one enemy, then back away. Never fight groups solo in early game. Quicksave before and after every fight.

Get free armor in New Camp mine
Free armor upgrade with no combat required. Prioritize getting to New Camp mine early for this.
