Fortnite
Chapter 7 Season 3 "Runners" Meta Loadout
The optimal 5-slot loadout for Fortnite Runners - built around shotgun dominance, fast mobility, and healing to survive extraction objectives and aggressive rotates.
Chapter 7 Season 3
Zero Build + Builds
Shotgun Meta
Meta summary: Season 3 heavily favors aggressive close-to-mid range fights. The shotgun pool is uneven - new shotguns are widely considered weak. The winning formula is Chaos Reloader + Ranger Pistol + Overdrive Grenades + heals, giving you fast TTK, chase ability, and sustain for sprite/extraction objectives.
Recommended Meta Loadout
1
Chaos Reloader Shotgun (or Mythic Striker Pump)
Highest body-shot damage in the shotgun pool. Auto-reloads when stowed - perfect for boxfights and aggressive pushes without losing reload time. Community consensus: the #1 shotgun for consistent pressure. Striker Pump is the true one-shot king on headshots but only at mythic rarity. Skip non-mythic Strikers.
Action: Loot high-traffic POIs early. Always stow between shots to let it reload on the run. Avoid all new Season 3 shotguns - they are widely called the weakest in recent seasons.
2
Ranger Pistol (or Flex SMG / Stinger SMG)
Low bloom, suppressed, strong headshot multiplier. Excellent for tagging at slightly longer range and cleaning up low-health runners. The Flex SMG is the top-tier alternative for hip-fire spray pressure in close range. Pairs perfectly with the shotgun for fast follow-up shots.
Action: Use pistol for finishes and medium-range pressure. Switch immediately after a shotgun shot to keep DPS flowing.
3
Overdrive Grenades (or Shockwaves / Seven Sliders)
Must-carry for the Runners meta. Provides an unlimited sprint/jump boost without launching you unpredictably through builds. Extremely common to find. Essential for chasing runners, escaping third-parties, and rotating into extraction zones.
Action: Pop before rotates, during third-party moments, or when you're low and need to disengage. Stack with movement gear (gloves/boots) if available.
4
Chug Jug
Primary healing for full HP+shields. The extraction and sprite loop in Season 3 punishes low sustain hard. You need at least one big heal to recover between fights during objectives.
Action: Use after securing a fight and before entering the next zone. Never carry into a fight where you can't safely heal.
5
Shield Minis or extra Mobility
Fast shield top-ups during and between fights. Many pros run 4 utility/heal slots + pistol. In Zero Build specifically, a second mobility option (Pocket Shocks) makes you much harder to pin down.
Action: Pop minis whenever shields drop below 50 mid-fight. In ZB, consider swapping this for Pocket Shocks if you're playing a flanking style.
Key Decision Points
Zero Build vs Builds
In ZB, lean toward Extending Focus or Maven Auto for mid-range coverage. In Builds, Chaos Reloader + Flex SMG has more value since fights play out closer.
Found a Mythic?
Always upgrade to mythic versions (Maven, Striker Pump) via bosses or minigames. The power spike is worth the detour - mythics are significantly stronger than their base versions this season.
Early vs Late game
Early: grab any decent shotgun + pistol, upgrade as you go. Late game: prioritize mobility + heals over a second long-range gun. The meta is close/mid aggressive - long-range is situational at best.
Sprites / Extraction
Ignore if you're behind on HP or healing. Extract low-level sprites fast and move on. Do not overcommit if it risks dying in the open - the objective is not worth a death mid-rotation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Picking up new Season 3 shotguns - community consensus is clear that they are significantly weaker than the Chaos Reloader and Striker Pump. Drop them for anything better.
- No mobility item - you will get third-partied constantly or be unable to chase runners. Overdrive Grenades are not optional in this meta.
- Over-investing in long range - the Hunting Rifle is situationally strong but this is a shotgun meta. Carrying two long-range guns bleeds utility slots you need.
- Not stowing the Chaos Reloader - it auto-reloads only when stowed. Players who pump and immediately fire again waste its core mechanic and lose DPS races.
- Ignoring heals in extraction mode - the sprite loop creates constant fights. Running thin on shields mid-objective is the most common death scenario this season.
