Why Malenia is Different She heals on every successful hit - including blocked hits. Blocking does not protect you. Offense is your defense: stay aggressive, stagger her often, and apply bleed/frost to outpace her regeneration.

Mimic Tear +10Best for drawing aggro and applying status procs passively

Bull-Goat + Dragoncrest Greatshield+ Rotten Winged Sword Insignia or Lord of Blood's Exultation for bleed
Consumables
Freezing Pots (key item)Craft with Rimed Crystal Bud from Consecrated Snowfield. Keep in quick pouch.

Bleed - Fast procs, constant stagger Frost - Burst damage, combo with bleed

Phase 1 Fight Flow

Opening Move Run in and attack first - she starts passive. Two-hand your weapon and jump attack or R1 chain. She staggers in 2-3 hits. Take the initiative immediately.

Core Loop

  1. 1
Two-hand and attack (jump attacks or R1 chain)
Jump attacks deal poise damage and trigger stagger fast. This prevents her from starting big combo sequences.
  2. 2
On stagger: 1-2 more hits, then retreat immediately
Do not greed. Staying in after a stagger is the most common death cause. Back off, let her recover, bait her next move.
  3. 3
Watch for her next attack, punish the recovery
Dodge INTO most attacks - her right side is generally safest. Each punish window gives 2-3 hits maximum.
  4. 4
Let bleed/frost procs do the heavy lifting
Each proc deals massive damage and can trigger stagger. Mimic applies additional status procs while she's focused on you.

Waterfowl Dance - Counter Options

Waterfowl Dance (WFD)
#1 Run Ender
Option A: Interrupt (Easiest)

Throw Freezing Pot immediately when she jumps into WFD stance. Interrupts the entire combo. Requires pots in quick pouch for fast access.

Option B: Dodge Pattern

If far: Sprint away, then roll INTO the later flurries.
If close: Circle right + timed rolls - back twice, then roll forward into her for the second flurry.

Backup: Bloodhound's Step (iframes) or Vow of the Indomitable on a shield. Practice both options - Freezing Pot interrupt first.

Other Dangerous Moves

Grab
Lethal if caught
Lunge + Aerial Slams
Punishable

Phase 2: Transition and New Moves

Phase Transition Lock on, run toward her then immediately strafe right to avoid the rot bloom opener. This is your window to heal and reapply buffs/grease while she's in the animation.

New Phase 2 Attacks

Key Decision Points

DecisionRecommendation
Summon or solo? Use Mimic Tear for your first kill. It splits aggro and applies status passively. Go solo after you know the patterns well.
Bleed or frost? Bleed for faster procs and frequent staggers. Frost for bigger burst damage. Bleed/frost hybrid is the top community pick.
WFD approach? Freezing Pot interrupt is the most reliable method. Learn the dodge sequence as backup for when pots run out.
How many hits per window? 2-3 hits maximum after a stagger. Back off immediately. Greed after staggers is the single most common cause of death.
