Core rule: minutes 0–3 take wave-clear, 3–8 commit to one carry spell plus a single survival tool, after that take rank-ups only. Blessing of Might first, Arcane Intellect second — and spend your 3 rerolls in the level 6–12 window where bad hands cost the most.

The three build phases

  1. 1
    Minutes 0–3 (levels 1–6): take wave-clear

Area spells — Blizzard, Volley, Consecration, Rain of Fire, Chain Lightning — turn the spawn curve into XP. Single-target starts need their first area tool before the first boss at ~2:15.

  2. 2
Minutes 3–8 (levels 6–12): commit to a carry

Push your best area spell toward rank 8 and add exactly one survival tool — a slow, a stun or a movement passive. The mobility spell (F) lands around here too.

  3. 3
    Minutes 8–15: rank-ups only

Slots are full, so every card is a stat line: damage % on the carry first, cooldown % second, survival last. Bosses resist control now — burst windows beat CC chains.

Reading a level-up hand

Cards are drawn from a weighted pool — knowing the weights tells you when to reroll.

Card typeWeightNote
Rank-up for a spell you own1.2Most common — until the spell hits rank 8
New spell (class pool)1.0While you hold fewer than six
Rank-up for a passive you own0.8Until rank 5
New passive0.5Rarest — while you hold fewer than six
Color is a hint, not a rule: the game ranks new-spell cards by estimated damage — top third shows Epic, bottom third Uncommon. Capped spells and passives leave the pool, so maxing things makes your wanted cards more likely. An empty pool offers a full heal instead.

Passive priorities

Six slots, ten passives — you won't take them all. A fifth point in one passive is often worth less than the first point in a missing stat.

PriorityPassivePer rank · at rank 5
1Blessing of Might+10% all damage · +50% — helps every build
2Arcane Intellect8% faster recharge · 40% (total capped at 65%)
3Amplify Magic+10% area size · +50% — big for Flamestrike, Consecration, Volley
4Blessing of Wisdom+8% experience · +40% — take early or not at all

Stat caps and quirks

Armor caps at 60%

Once the stats panel shows 60% reduction, stop taking flat Armor — switch to Max Health, Dodge, Shield or regen.

Crit past 100% isn't wasted

Overflow converts directly into bonus Critical Damage.

Echo past 100% rolls a third strike

Guarantees a second cast on every spell, then the overflow chance rolls for a third.

Luck shifts rarity

Every draft and chest rolls toward Uncommon→Legendary — why the Lucky racial and Mark of the Chosen are top picks for long runs.

Talents and per-class builds

Each class earns up to 51 talent points across three trees, with milestones at 10/20/30 points and one capstone per build. Respecs between runs are free — experiment.

S-tier solo clears

Hunter (Explosive Trap / Beast Mastery), Warlock (Soul Link / Drain Soul), Mage (Frostbite / Shatter) — the strongest clearing builds when talents are unlocked.

Forgiving starters

Paladin and Warrior — built-in armor and self-healing cover mistakes while early talent rows are still locked.

Tree-first rule

Fill the tree whose talents name your build's core spells — the 30-point milestones change how spells play, so depth beats spread.

FAQ

What's the best azeroth survivors build for solo?

Hunter with Explosive Trap/Beast Mastery, Warlock with Soul Link/Drain Soul and Mage with Frostbite/Shatter are the community S-tier picks. Paladin and Warrior are the safest while you're still learning.

When should I use rerolls?

You get 3 per run — save them for the level 6–12 stretch, where a bad hand while committing to your carry costs the most.

Should I take a new spell or a rank-up?

Early game, new area spells; once your carry is chosen, a rank 4→5 on it usually beats a new rank-1 spell.

Do talents or passives matter more?

Different systems — passives are drafted per run, talents persist between runs and are freely respeced in the armory. Talent milestones (10/20/30 pts) change how spells behave, so plan your tree around the build's named spells.
