How to Stick the Matchstick in a Wall and Jump

Embed Glimmer's matchstick in a wall so you can jump on it and bounce higher than a normal jump. This is the demo's main extra-height tool for ledges you otherwise cannot reach. Two things trip players up: the shot only works from the ground, and you have to land on the stuck match then jump off it.

Ground-only shot Jump off the match Match is reusable
The two things players get stuck on: The slingshot only works from the ground, not from the air. And the stuck match does not launch you just by touching it. You have to land on it, then jump off it. That second jump is what gives the extra height.
Step-by-Step

How to Wall-Stick and Bounce

1
Stand on solid ground. The game blocks slingshot in the air. If you try to throw while jumping, nothing happens. Drop to a floor first.
2
Hold the slingshot input. Hold-and-release, shown in-game as R2 or the mapped slingshot button.
3
Aim at a wall surface that can take the match. Release to fire. The match embeds and stays as a small platform or spring.
4
Jump onto the embedded match. A committed jump, not a short hop.
5
Jump off the match. That second jump is what gives the extra height. In-game text: slingshot launches the match so you can gain additional height; jump off the match after it sticks.
You get the match back after the bounce. You cannot pre-fire from mid-air for a chase or well drop, but the match is reusable once you land. Aim for the next wall, fire again, and chain bounces to climb higher.
Decision Points

Key Choices

Ground vs Air

If the shot does nothing, you are airborne or mid-dash. Drop to a floor first. The slingshot is explicitly blocked in the air.

When to Jump Off

Jump after you land on the match. Jumping too early, before you are on it, is the miss players keep repeating in footage.

Surface Choice

Aim at a wall surface that can take the embed. Some surfaces do not accept the match. If the shot lands and nothing sticks, try a different spot.

Chaining Bounces

Land, re-fire at the next wall, bounce again. You can climb ledges that a normal jump cannot reach by chaining two or three wall sticks.

Common Mistakes

What Blocks the Bounce

x
Firing while jumping or falling. The slingshot is explicitly blocked in the air. Land first.
x
Expecting the stuck match to launch you just by touching it. You have to jump off it. The bounce only comes from the second jump.
x
Aiming at a surface that does not accept the embed, then assuming the mechanic is broken. Try a different wall spot.
x
Using a short hop onto the match instead of a committed jump-off. You need a real jump to get the height.
