WARDOGS Early Access: Launch Date, Price, and Day One Strategy
WARDOGS hits Steam Early Access on September 10 at $39.99. Beta progress is wiped, so here is the exact first-match loop to keep your persistent cash bankroll alive from spawn one.
Core goal: Survive and grow your persistent cash bankroll in the first matches so you can afford better loadouts, vehicles, and keep contributing without going broke after a few deaths. Cash starts at $10,000, persists across matches, and every death forces a full rebuy. Bad spending or ignoring the objective tanks your progress while the Control Zone decides the match.
1First-Match Loop: Spawn, Buy, Rotate, Rebuy
-
1
On spawn, buy a cheap functional kit only
Grab a basic primary (the Galil gets named for strong price/performance, or any starter rifle you can control), matching ammo (loose rounds take less space than full mags), Level 1 helmet plus light armor, a sidearm, and basic medical/revive items. Do not load up on expensive plates, excess bandages (loot them off bodies), or vehicles yet.
Why: Cash is seed money, not a free refill. Overspending on day 1 leaves you unable to rebuy after deaths. T1/T2 armor gives a big survival edge without bankrupting you.
-
2
Use the "Rebuy last loadout" button after every death
Bottom left on the buy screen. One click restores your previous kit instead of rebuilding every time. Saves massive time and prevents costly mistakes while learning.
-
3
Move straight toward the Control Zone with teammates
Identify the randomized 2x2 km Control Zone (and any Hot Zone inside it). Join the nearest friendly cluster and rotate using cover. Once inside, stay there. Do not wander or main-street open roads.
Why: The team with the most players in the zone scores points every ~30 seconds (first to 100 wins). Zone occupation pays steady cash ($160/cycle normal, higher in Hot Zone where each player counts double). Leaving the zone for edge fights or AFK at FOBs loses both the match and income.
-
4
Play support actions while fighting
Revive and bandage teammates (reported $100-900 per revive, plus bribes up to $500), ferry players in vehicles when safe, or help build. Focus on the active infantry fight rather than pure sniping or solo runs.
Why: Team actions refund loadouts faster than kill-chasing alone. Players who stuck with squads and rezzed ended beta with $200k+ and unlocks; solo players burned cash fast.
-
5
Scale up carefully after a few successful lives
Once you have a buffer, consider better optics (Prism x3, x2, x1.5 get praised), extended mags if needed, or a transport run. Only buy tanks/vehicles when the squad needs them and you understand resupply and threats. Use C4 for FOB doors or concentrated targets if raiding.
Why: Early expensive kits or tanks (noted as underpriced/powerful at ~$15k by some) can wipe your bank on one death. Infantry fights with the team remain the highest consistent earner.
2Key Decisions You Will Face
3Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Treating the $10k as a per-life allowance or spending it all on the first spawn. It is your bankroll, not a refill.
-
Ignoring the Control or Hot Zone for kills, sniping, or FOB camping. This is the meta many called out as unfun and losing.
-
Solo missions, rushing like CoD or Battlefield, or failing to get rezzed. Team play refunds loadouts, solo play burns cash.
-
Buying incompatible ammo, excess consumables you can loot, or vehicles without a plan. Check ammo compatibility before checkout.
-
Staying on a bad server once it becomes a pure tank/arty/sniper fest. Switch servers rather than feeding a losing loop.
-
Skipping the firing range and tutorial. Learn loadouts and controls before spending your bankroll on real matches.
