WARDOGS Control Zone Scoring: Three Factions
Your faction does not win by killing more people. It wins by having the highest player count inside the Control Zone when the score tick hits. Here is how three-faction scoring works and how to actually win.
Core problem: Your faction does not win by killing more people. It wins by having the highest player count inside the Control Zone when the score tick hits. In a three-faction fight (Lonestar, Valkyra, Manticore), the team that looks strongest is the one both others should shoot. Players lose matches by farming kills outside the box, turtling a FOB, or brawling one enemy while the third team walks in.
What Actually Scores
How to Score in a Three-Way Zone
- 1Spawn cheap and move to the box immediately.
Minimum kit. Do not spend the first life kitting for an 800 m sniper nest outside the zone. Presence is the currency. A cheap body in the circle scores. A god loadout 2 km away does not.
- 2Get bodies in, then keep them in.
Use heli, spawn vehicle, or APC to dump people inside the Control Zone. Park a spawn vehicle in the Control Zone so teammates keep arriving on the objective.
- 3Read the tick, not the killfeed.
When the bar is almost full, stop ego-peeking. Stay alive and stay inside. One wipe 5 seconds before the tick flips the point to another faction.
- 4Use Hot Zone as a swing tool, not an AFK farm.
If the match is close, pile into Hot Zone. One squad of 4 in Hot Zone equals 8 bodies on the count. Late-game helo drops into Hot Zone are the clutch that steals 97-97 type finishes.
- 5Always assign someone to the third faction.
Two teams that finish a brawl and reload in the open get farmed by the team that waited. After you win a fight vs one color, do not loot in the open. Reset to cover facing the color that was not in the fight.
- 6Towers are leverage, not the win.
Hack or code a tower to pull Hot Zone toward ground you can hold. Then stay. Completing a terminal and leaving the area empty does not score. The tick still only cares who is standing in the zone.
Quick Decisions
| Situation | Do this |
|---|---|
| Winning a 1v1 brawl | Face the third color. That is who scores while you celebrate. |
| Score is close (80+) | Hot Zone stack plus helo insert beats more kills. |
| Team sitting on a FOB | Leave. Turtling a FOB, even one inside the zone, is a guaranteed loss. Follow Hot Zone. |
| Hot Zone is empty | Take it. Free double-count. |
| Hot Zone is a blender and you lead count | Hold the rest of the Control Zone. Do not trade your lead for cash. |
| Two enemies fighting each other | Enter from a third approach. Do not join their line. |
| Tick bar almost full | Live. Hide. Stay inside. |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Treating it like TDM or Battlefield conquest. Kills outside the box do not tick points.
- Turtling FOB or HQ instead of rotating with Hot Zone. A base inside the zone still loses if nobody is in the circle.
- Fighting one faction so hard the third walks the objective. Always watch the third color.
- Flying a straight line into the zone and dying before you count. A dead body is 0 on the tick.
- Capturing a tower then leaving. Ownership of a terminal is not ownership of the score. Stay in the zone.
- Solo hero runs. 3-4 kills often do not pay for a good kit, and a dead body is 0 on the tick.
- Ignoring the tick bar until the point is already gone. Watch the fill bar under the scores.
- Picking a faction based on "they win more." That is usually population or coordination, not a hidden stat. Play the side that actually goes to the zone.
