Teamfight Tactics Patch 17.7

Akali Jax Reroll Comp

Force a strong mid-game spike with 5 NOVA Akali as main carry and Jax 3 as solo tank. Roll at level 6 for the Nova upgrade that gives Akali board-wide DoT, melting backlines while Jax holds the frontline. S-tier, easy to force, low-contest, and item-flexible.

S-Tier Reroll Roll at Level 6 5 NOVA Spike Low Contest

Core Strategy

The Game Plan

Stay at level 6 and roll for Akali 2-3 star and Jax 3 star. Add Kindred to reach 5 NOVA, which unlocks Akali's board-wide DoT upgrade. This spikes hard in Stage 3 and early Stage 4 while opponents are still stabilizing. The comp is straightforward, low-contest, and item-flexible, making it easy to force for consistent top-4 finishes.

Step-by-Step Execution

1
Early game: tempo and econ (Stages 1-2)
Play strongest board for tempo and econ. Hold every copy of Akali, Jax, and relevant Nova units (Aatrox, Caitlyn, Maokai, Urgot early). Lose streak if safe for anvils and econ, or win streak with good items. Prioritize Akali item holders. Slam generic AD or tank items early if needed.
2
Level 6 reroll: hit the core spike
Stay at level 6 and roll down gold while saving econ. Target: Akali 2-3 star + Jax 3 star + Kindred for 5 NOVA. Odds for Kindred at 6 are decent; roll more at 7 if needed. The goal is hitting 5 NOVA fast to unlock Akali's board-wide DoT. This makes the comp spike hard in Stage 3 and early Stage 4.
3
Itemize Akali and Jax
Akali: Deathblade + Hextech Gunblade (mandatory for healing Jax via board damage) + flex slot (Striker's, Prowler's Claw, Guardbreaker, Edge of Night). Jax: pure tank items (Stoneplate, Gargoyle). He just needs to not die. Nova handles the rest. See Section 3 for full item details.
4
Mid and late game transitions
Once stabilized at level 6, cap with Morgana or Vex for tank utility, or Bel'Veth or Fiora for Marauder synergies. Go to 8 or 9 for legendaries if contested or if you have high econ. Play around 4+ Marauder or Bastion traits if possible.
03

Item Priority

Carry Akali
1Deathblade - Core AD damage item. Stacks with kills for snowballing.
2Hextech Gunblade - Mandatory. Board-wide DoT heals Jax through Gunblade, keeping your frontline alive.
3Flex slot: Striker's, Prowler's Claw, Guardbreaker, or Edge of Night. Pick based on lobby threats.
Tank Jax
1Stoneplate or Gargoyle - Pure tank items. Jax just needs to survive; Nova damage handles the rest.
2Any remaining tank components - Warmogs, Bramble, Dragon's Claw depending on lobby damage types.
Flex Nova Emblem
!Hard force Nova Emblem if you hit one. Makes the comp significantly easier and stronger by freeing up a unit slot.

Key Decision Points

Contested for Jax or Akali copies?
Tempo to 8 or 9 and pivot to Kindred or Morg carry, or fast 8 with Akali 2 star. Use Tahm or Morg 2 star as tank instead of Jax 3 star. Do not force the reroll if multiple players are holding your units.
Which augments to take?
Prismatic Tickets for reroll value. Combat augs like Baron's Lair are great for longer fights and DoT. Anything that gives Nova Emblem or Spatula is high priority. Gamble on emblems if offered.
How to position Akali and Jax?
Solo Jax frontline (watch for Blitzcrank reposition). Place Akali in back two rows and body block her pathing so she survives longer to reach the backline and wrap around. Yasuo stun is a huge boon since Nova counts as ability cast, triggering board stun.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

! Skipping Gunblade on Akali. Hextech Gunblade is the key item for Jax sustain. Board-wide DoT damage heals Jax through Gunblade, keeping your frontline alive. Without it, Jax dies too fast.
! Putting utility items on Jax. Jax needs pure tank items only. Nova handles the damage. If Jax dies, the comp falls apart.
! Rolling too much early or leveling past 6 before hitting core units. Stay at level 6 until Akali and Jax are upgraded. Leveling too early dilutes your roll odds.
! Bad positioning letting Akali get focused. Akali is not Rogue, so she needs to path safely. Body block her with other units so she survives longer and reaches the backline.
! Ignoring counters. High-cap legendaries, Mech comps (Akali stuck on frontline), and strong Space Groove (splash and healing) can counter this comp. Scout and adjust positioning or pivot if needed.
