No More Room in Hell 2 Infection: Phalanx Pills and Double Gene Therapy
Pills do not cure you. Gene Therapy only works if you use it twice. Most players die because they pop pills too early, use Gene Therapy once and think they are safe, or stay silent until they turn. Here is the exact timing and the two-step cure.
Core problem: You got infected. Pills only reset the timer, they do not cure you. Gene Therapy requires two activations on the same player to actually work. Most players die because they burn pills early, use Gene Therapy once and holster it, or stay silent until they collapse and reanimate on the squad.
1Confirm You Are Actually Infected
Hits while below ~50% HP raise infection chance. Lower HP means higher chance. Failed grapples and no-stamina grapples can infect you outright. Rotten "fart cloud" zombies infect more often.
-
1
Early: white "god ray" lines / blur at screen edges
No coughing yet. You can keep moving but tell the squad you might be infected.
-
2
Mid: echo on audio + coughing
Teammates can hear this. Light cough = early. Gut-wrenching cough = they need to hand you pills now.
-
3
Late: whispers, heavy coughing, hallucinations, then veins
Vains at the screen edge = last ~30 seconds. This is your final window to act.
2Phalanx Pills: Buy Time, Do Not "Cure"
Exact timing players keep repeating:
-
1
Do NOT take a pill at first cough or first blur.
You will burn a 3-dose bottle in minutes. Wait.
-
2
Wait until veins appear.
That is the signal. One dose at veins stretches the bottle into ~12-15 minutes of extra life instead of a few minutes.
-
3
Stop sprinting before you swallow.
A sprint or a zombie hit cancels the swallow animation. If you are already at veins, that cancel is a turn. Stand still, swallow, then move.
-
4
Do not throw the bottle after one use.
Three charges. Keep it. And do not fat-finger a medkit instead of the bottle, a common wipe cause.
3Experimental Gene Therapy: The Real Cure (Must Use Twice)
-
1
Equip the device. Use it once to draw a blood sample.
A bar appears on the tool. First use does NOT stop the timer. You are still dying.
-
2
Hold the item. Wait until the bar fills and turns green (~27-30 seconds).
Stay somewhere you will not get hit. If you are late-stage, a teammate should cover you and you should have already taken pills.
-
3
Use it again. That injects the finished antivirus.
The kit is spent / thrown away. You are now cured and immune for the rest of the match.
4Key Decisions
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Coughing, no veins, no Gene Therapy | Keep looting / pushing, but do NOT waste a pill yet. Ask if anyone is holding a spare bottle. |
| Veins on screen | Pill NOW. Then extract or finish the Gene Therapy sequence. |
| Gene Therapy in inventory, already late-stage | Pill first, then start the two-step inject. Do not start the 30s bar at veins with no pill. |
| Multiple infected, 1-2 bottles total, mission not almost done | Share doses, then early extract (red bunker boxes on the map). Empty-handed extract beats a lost Responder. |
| No pills, no kit, far from extract | Call it. Run the nearest early extract. Last resort is self-sacrifice so you do not reanimate on the squad. |
5Common Mistakes That Wipe Runs
- Taking pills at first cough and burning a 3-dose bottle in minutes. Wait for veins.
- Using Gene Therapy once and holstering it. Timer keeps running, you still turn. This is the #1 cause of infection deaths.
- Starting the 30-second synthesize at veins with no pill backup. You turn before the bar fills.
- Dropping the Gene Therapy after the blood draw. Sample progress resets to zero.
- Staying mute until you collapse. Console players missing text chat get ordered to pill too late.
- Thinking extract is optional while late-stage with no meds. Extract clears infection. Next match starts clean.
- Assuming pills work passively. You have to consume them. Players keep dying with unused bottles in inventory.
