Crimson Moon Mixed Steam Reviews After September 1 Launch
Crimson Moon launched September 1 with mixed Steam reviews around 59 percent. The complaints are specific: no key remapping, camera fights you, crashes on final bosses, and floaty combat. Here is what each issue actually is, what the patch fixed, and whether to buy now or wait.
Core problem: players see "Mixed" on Steam and do not know if the negatives are about gameplay depth or launch jank. The answer: a large share of negative reviews were specifically about no key remapping on day one, camera clipping in corridors and against large bosses, crashes on final bosses, and occasional save or progression resets. Devs shipped Patch 1.0.0.1 quickly for basic keybinds and are working on camera, stability, and saves. Console players, especially on PS5, report a noticeably better time.
What the Reviews Actually Say
1Do This Before Your Next Run
-
1
Update to Patch 1.0.0.1 (version 162350).
It adds an Alpha key-remapping menu: Settings, Keyboard, click the left arrow to select the custom profile. You can rebind actions and change mouse sensitivity. Limitations right now: no multi-bind, no hold or double-tap support yet.
-
2
Prefer a controller.
Many players who bounced off keyboard and mouse said the game feels designed around it. Dodge and sprint share the same button on default layouts, which frustrated KBM players.
-
3
If the camera clips or swings wildly, keep fights in open sections of the ward.
Use lock-on sparingly. Players repeatedly call the camera the second-biggest issue after keybinds. Fighting in tight corridors against large bosses is where it breaks.
-
4
Start on an easier difficulty.
Early health is low, a couple of hits, and basic enemies take several swings. It eases once you upgrade gear a couple of times. Dynamic difficulty exists and higher settings give better loot.
-
5
Use Angel Sight if a mission or boss encounter will not progress.
Leftover enemies are a common reason it stalls. Angel Sight reveals them.
2Decision Points
Common Mistakes
- Expecting Elden Ring or Onimusha tightness at launch. Reviews that did this were the harshest. Combat is faster and more arcade-y than a strict Soulslike.
- Not updating and then rage-quitting over default binds. Patch 1.0.0.1 exists. Update first.
- Trying to treat it like a traditional loot RPG where you freely swap everything mid-mission. It is a roguelite. Gear stays for the run.
- Ignoring the life pool and over-committing on the first few under-geared runs. Early health is low. Upgrade gear first.
- Assuming every negative review is about gameplay depth. A large share were specifically "cannot rebind keys on day one," which is now patched.
