What it does: Animator Studio is a keyframe editor that lives inside skate. It lets you rewrite how tricks look — body and board keys, custom trick packs, playlist variants — and share the results with other players through an in-game market.

Install steps

You need your own copy of skate. on Steam and a working ReSkate 2.1.2 install first — this download is a DLL replacement, not a standalone tool.

  1. 1
    Get ReSkate 2.1.2 running

Install the official ReSkate release and launch it once to finish setup. ReSkate targets its own supported Steam build — keep its folder separate from Steam's live skate. installation.

  2. 2
    Turn off auto-updates

In ReSkateLauncher → Settings → LAUNCHER, disable "Install ReSkate updates". If you skip this, the launcher can overwrite Animator Studio's DLL with the official one.

  3. 3
Back up and swap the DLL

Close the launcher and game. Back up your existing ReSkate.dll (and ReSkate.Tricks if present), then drop the Animator Studio ReSkate.dll next to Skate.exe and ReSkateLauncher.exe.

  4. 4
    Launch and press F8

Start through ReSkateLauncher.exe as usual. Once in game, F8 opens the studio. The native animation library may rebuild on first use — let it finish.

Verify the download: the release ships a ReSkate.dll.sha256 checksum file — compare it before replacing anything. You don't copy the checksum itself into the game folder.

Using your own tricks in game

Saving a clip isn't enough — a custom trick only plays when every one of these is on.

StepWhere
Edit a native trick's keysOpen a native trick in TRICKS, edit its keys, save it
Tick ACTIVEIn MY TRICKS — saving alone does not activate a trick
Assign a playlistChoose a playlist when prompted — only one playlist is on at a time
Enable the playlistMake sure that playlist is switched on
Enable custom tricksLeave "Custom tricks in game" enabled in settings
Market: the MARKET tab inside the studio is where animation packs are browsed, installed and shared — other players' trick packs install straight into your library.

What the studio edits

Body keys

Retime and repose the skater's body across a clip — this is how custom flip tricks, grinds and manuals get their shape.

Board keys

Board motion is keyed separately from the body, so you can exaggerate flips or catch the deck differently mid-trick.

Trick packs

Bundle edited clips into packs, pick variants per pop height through playlists, and share them via the market.

What others see

Clips play on your skater's animation — in multiplayer, other players see your custom tricks drawn on your character.

FAQ

Is Animator Studio part of ReSkate?

It's a separate release by FourthStudio that replaces the ReSkate.dll — think of it as a forked runtime with the studio built in. It requires ReSkate 2.1.2 underneath.

Do I need skate. on Steam?

Yes — a legitimate copy of skate. plus a working ReSkate 2.1.2 install are prerequisites. The download contains no game files.

My edited trick saved but won't play — why?

Almost always one of the activation steps: the trick must be ticked ACTIVE in MY TRICKS, assigned to a playlist that's enabled, and "Custom tricks in game" must be on in settings.

The launcher overwrote the studio DLL — fix?

Turn off "Install ReSkate updates" in the launcher's LAUNCHER settings, then replace the DLL again. That setting restores the official DLL over Animator Studio whenever it runs.

Where do I get trick packs made by others?

Inside the studio's MARKET tab (F8 in game), or through the ReSkate launcher's MODS section for packs published as mods.
