ReSkate keeps its own copy of the game in its own folder — Steam updating skate. cannot break your modded install. You need a Steam account that owns skate. (the game itself is free) to download the supported build once; after that you can even run fully offline.

Install in 4 steps

Only download from the official GitHub releases — reuploads in YouTube descriptions and Discord DMs are not from the team.

  1. 1
    Download the zip

Grab the newest ReSkate-*.zip from GitHub releases. It contains the launcher (ReSkateLauncher.exe) and the runtime (ReSkate.dll).

  2. 2
    Extract to a fresh folder

Put the two files in a new, empty folder like C:\Games\ReSkate — never inside Steam's skate. folder. You need about 14 GB free on that drive.

  3. 3
Run the launcher and sign in to Steam

The launcher downloads the one supported game build into its folder. Sign in with the Steam app QR code or your credentials + Steam Guard.

  4. 4
    Press PLAY

Without Steam running it starts in offline mode as "Unknown Player" — no multiplayer, everything else works. The launcher keeps itself and the game build in sync afterwards.

Mods

The launcher's MODS page is a full mod browser — no manual file juggling needed.

Get mods in the launcher

Browse the Thunderstore listing inside the launcher and press install — dependencies come with it. Or drag a .zip or folder onto the window.

Profiles

Save a set of mods and their order as a named profile. Share profiles as codes or .r2z files — the same format r2modman uses.

Hot apply

The in-game ReSkate menu (Insert key) toggles mods on and off; most changes apply without a restart. Broken or outdated mods are skipped with a message, not a crash.

Plugins

Since v2.1, mods can run sandboxed Lua plugins — new game modes, HUDs, menu pages and console commands without touching ReSkate itself.

Multiplayer: lobbies and dedicated servers

Way to playDetails
Steam lobbyHost from the Multiplayer menu — up to 32 players, public or code + password invite
Dedicated serverReSkateServer.exe (Win/Linux) runs headless without the game or Steam, up to 249 players, own plugins, votes and admin roles
OfflineFull free skate with your own music: the in-game player supports Spotify, YouTube Music, local files, internet radio, any app on your PC
Server owners: unzip the server package, run it once to generate ReSkateServer.json, set a name, then type role admin to give yourself full commands. Use --headless to run it as a console service.

Common questions

Do I need to own skate.?

Yes — skate. is free on Steam (app 3354750), and ReSkate downloads the supported build through your own Steam account. It does not pirate the game.

Will my antivirus flag it?

Possibly — ReSkate loads a DLL into the game, a technique some AV tools warn about. That is a known side effect, not proof of malware. The source is on GitHub if you want to review or build it yourself.

Can I get banned?

ReSkate runs its own copy of the game on a fixed build, separate from EA's live version and its matchmaking. Play in ReSkate lobbies and dedicated servers — it is not a way into official EA servers with mods.

Steam updated skate. and ReSkate broke?

It cannot — the whole point of the separate folder is that Steam's live updates never touch ReSkate's pinned copy (build 25414733). If mods complain about the game version, check you launched through ReSkateLauncher.exe, not Steam.
