MapleStory Classic
MapleStory Classic World is Nexon's official recreation of the 2006-era game — Maple Island, Victoria Island, four original job branches and the old-school grind, rebuilt as a separate world inside modern MapleStory.
nexon.com/maplestory — free, no package needed
Classic World is free for everyone since the Grand Launch on October 21, 2026. You don't need a Founder's Package anymore — just install MapleStory through the Nexon Launcher or Steam, flip the Classic World toggle, and create a Beginner. Progress from the paid Founder's Access period (Oct 6–20) carries over.
How to start playing
Classic World is a separate client bundled with modern MapleStory. Pick whichever platform you prefer — both work.
-
1
Via the Nexon Launcher
Install the Nexon Launcher from
nexon.com, sign in, find MapleStory in your library and flip the MapleStory Classic World toggle to download the standalone Classic client. -
2
Via Steam
Classic World ships inside the regular MapleStory build on Steam — install or update MapleStory, then select the Classic World option when launching. Link your Steam profile to a Nexon account first (Account Settings on the Nexon website) or the game will ask you to sign in anyway.

3
Create a Beginner on Maple Island
Everyone starts as a Beginner, levels 1–10 on Maple Island. You get up to three character slots per account, and the client is available in English and Spanish.

Pick your job at level 10
Take the ship to Victoria Island and visit your branch's hometown instructor. The choice is permanent — read the class table below before you commit.
The four classes
All four original branches advance at level 10 — including Magician, which in the 2006 original advanced at level 8. Second job advancement comes at level 30 through a four-quest test.
| Class | Main stat | Weapons | Advance at | Plays like |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | STR | Swords, axes, blunt weapons, spears, polearms | Warriors' Sanctuary, Perion (Dances with Balrog) | Melee with the deepest HP pool and heaviest armor. Walk up and hit. |
| Magician | INT | Wands, staves | Magic Library, Ellinia (Grendel the Really Old) | Ranged elemental spells. Thinnest HP, constant MP management. |
| Bowman | DEX | Bows, crossbows | Bowman Instructional School, Henesys (Athena Pierce) | Physical damage from across the screen — keep arrows stocked. |
| Thief | LUK | Daggers, claws | Thieves' Hideout, Kerning City (Dark Lord) | Fast and evasive, split between throwing stars and daggers. |
| Branch | 2nd job options (level 30) |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Fighter (sword/axe) · Page (sword/blunt) · Spearman (spear/polearm) |
| Magician | F/P Wizard (fire/poison) · I/L Wizard (ice/lightning) · Cleric (heal/holy) |
| Bowman | Hunter (bow) · Crossbowman (crossbow) |
| Thief | Assassin (claws/stars) · Bandit (daggers) |
What changed from 2006 MapleStory
Classic World recreates the old pacing — slow leveling, party play, real travel time — with a few modern twists.
Two islands, that's it
Maple Island and Victoria Island only at launch. No Orbis tower rush, no Ludibrium — the world ends at the towns the 2006 game started with.
Level cap 100
Progression stops at 100 for now, and the job tree stops at 2nd advancement. No 3rd or 4th job skills exist in this world.
Party quests are back
Kerning City Party Quest (KPQ) is the early-game social hub again — expect recruitment spam in Kerning and long queues for a party slot.
New: Citizenship & Crafting
Classic-exclusive systems that weren't in the original game. Crafting is open to every character and feeds into town Citizenship perks.
Magician advances at 10
The original let mages job-advance at level 8; Classic World moved everyone to a uniform level 10 advancement with no quest required.
Cosmetic-only cash shop
Founder's Package items and shop goods grant no stats or bonuses — the grind is the game, like it was in 2006.
Founder's Packages — still worth it?
Packages stopped mattering for access the moment Grand Launch opened, but they're still sold for the cosmetics.
| Package | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Snail | $29.99 | Mark of the Founder hat, Founder's Effect, Jr. Balrog Invasion x50, Well-Loved Outfit set |
| Orange Mushroom | $59.99 | Everything in Snail + Founder's Thief Outfit set (included Founder's Access, now over) |
| Zakum | $79.99 | Everything above + Manji's Outfit set and Founder's Chat/Label Rings |
First-session tips
- 1Spend AP for where you're going, not where you are
Beginners don't need stats — start feeding your target class's main stat (STR/INT/DEX/LUK) from level 1 so you aren't short at advancement.
- 2Finish Maple Island quests before leaving
The island quests are quick XP and starter gear. Once you take the ship to Lith Harbor, there's no going back.
- 3Advance exactly at 10
Each level past 10 as a Beginner is wasted HP/MP growth — head to your instructor the moment you hit double digits.
- 4Buy potions and return scrolls early
Death costs EXP in Classic World. Carry town return scrolls and keep a potion buffer — the walk back from a death is long.
- 5Save your KPQ window
The Kerning City Party Quest is the fastest social leveling from the mid-teens. Hang around the Kerning City sewer entrance and watch chat for "KPQ in" calls.
