MapleStory Classic Tier List - All 10 Second-Job Classes Ranked
MapleStory Classic class tier list at launch: every second job ranked from the published lists and damage-engine data, plus the best pick for leveling, bossing and solo play.
The tier list
Median of the major published lists plus damage-engine numbers at level 70. Contested picks are noted.
| Tier | Classes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Bandit | Savage Blow is the hardest sustained single-target hit at 2nd job - wins every kill-steal contest. Steal adds loot, a stun and an attack buff. |
| A | Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard, Cleric, Assassin | F/P: DoT + mobility for solo farming. I/L: Lightning clears whole mobs - fastest leveling. Cleric: survives anywhere, parties want it. Assassin: Lucky Seven burst at range. |
| B | Fighter, Page, Spearman, Hunter, Crossbowman | Fighter: high HP, cheap skills, forgiving first main. Crossbowman: hardest single hit in the Bowman line; Hunter the better mobber. Page/Spearman: solid but slower early. |
Reality check from the damage engine: Bandit tops single-target, Crossbowman actually tops AoE damage-per-cast at 70, and F/P, I/L and Cleric land nearly 100% of hits on high-avoid monsters like Tauromacis while physical classes whiff. No class is unplayable - the gap matters most for kill-steals and boss parties.
Best class by goal
| If you want | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest leveling & mobbing | Ice/Lightning Wizard | Lightning Bolt hits whole groups at once - clears crowded maps fastest. |
| Safest solo leveling | Cleric | Heal and buffs keep you alive where others burn potions - and every party wants one. |
| Ranged single-target | Assassin | Lucky Seven burst from a safe distance, plus Thief mobility and Haste. |
| Melee single-target | Bandit | The strongest sustained melee hit - if you accept standing next to the mob. |
| Solo farming rotation | Fire/Poison Wizard | Fire Arrow plus poison DoT with strong mobility - a self-sufficient farming loop. |
| Bowman bossing | Crossbowman | The hardest single hit in the line - the boss pick over Hunter. |
| Forgiving first character | Fighter | High health and cheap skills forgive mistakes while you learn patterns. |
Before you commit
- 1Base class locks at level 10, second job at 30
Read the job advancement requirements before spending ability points - early stat placement is hard to fix.
- 2You get three characters per account
There's room to try a risky main and a safe farmer - don't agonize over the first pick.
- 3Tiers shift with balance patches
Most of this data comes from the two closed betas plus launch - check back after major patches.
FAQ
What is the best class in MapleStory Classic?
Bandit for raw single-target damage, Ice/Lightning for leveling speed, Cleric for safe solo play and guaranteed party invites. The "best" depends on your goal.
How many classes are there at launch?
Ten second-job classes across four base lines (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief), plus the Islander beginner variant.
Is Spearman bad?
It's the lowest-ranked pick on most lists mainly for early pacing, not because it's broken - party buffs and later jobs change the picture.
When do I pick my job?
Base class at level 10, second job at 30. Your tier-list pick is the second-job decision - the one that defines your launch experience.
