Short version: install REDmod (CDPR's free official loader on GOG/Steam/Epic), add Cyber Engine Tweaks and RED4ext for script-based mods, then pull mods from Nexus. After every game patch, update the framework files first — most "mod broke my game" issues are stale loaders.

Where to download: Nexus Mods (nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077) is the de facto hub — every framework file and 99% of mods live there. Grab them from the mod page itself, not reuploads.

Install order that avoids problems

  1. 1
    Install REDmod first

Free DLC from your store page — enables the official mod pipeline.

  2. 2
    Add CET and RED4ext

Drop into the game folder per each tool's readme; they unlock script and native mods.

  3. 3
Install mods one at a time

Add a few, boot the game, confirm. Mass-installing makes failures hard to trace.

  4. 4
After a game patch, update the framework

Major patches (like 2.5) break CET/RED4ext until they update — check those before blaming a mod.

Mods worth knowing

NightCoop

The headline mod right now — full co-op for up to 8 players. Standalone installer, see the NightCoop guide.

Vehicle / combat overhauls

Handling reworks, better AI and rebalanced combat — read each mod's 2.5 compatibility note before installing.

Appearance & clothing

Requires ArchiveXL + TweakXL. The biggest category on Nexus — character presets, outfits, hair.

QoL mods

UI fixes, better minimap, autoloot — small quality-of-life mods are the safest first installs.

FAQ

Do Cyberpunk 2077 mods work on console?

No — mods are PC only. PlayStation and Xbox have no mod support.

Is Nexus the only place for cyberpunk mods?

Practically yes for public releases — Nexus hosts the frameworks and almost every mod. Some projects (like NightCoop) run their own official sites; use those, not mirrors.

Will mods break my save after 2.5?

The game update can break the loaders until they update — REDmod/CET/RED4ext usually patch within days. Keep a vanilla save backup before a big patch.

What is RED4ext used for?

It's the native plugin loader for DLL-based mods — NightCoop's only framework dependency (bundled in its own archive).
