Rumblejack Build Guide
How to turn the Drifter dagger into a Steel Path room-clearer using Melee Influence and Viral/Electric status stacking - full mod setup, decision points, and common mistakes.
Viral + Melee Influence Build (Recommended)
Best for general Steel Path content. Balanced damage across all factions. Pairs naturally with companions or frames that prime enemies.
Mod Setup (in priority order)
-
1
Stance: Pointed Wind (preferred) or Stinging ThornMatches polarity, enables fast dagger combos that rapidly apply status for Influence chains.
-
2
Condition Overload (or Galvanized version)Core scaling mod - multiplies damage for each status type on the target. More status types = exponential damage.
-
3
Prime Pressure Point (or Sacrificial Pressure)Base damage multiplier. Foundation for all subsequent scaling.
-
4
Weeping WoundsMassive status chance increase as combo multiplier builds. Essential for reliable proc chains.
-
5
Voltaic Strike + Chilling Touch (or Vicious Frost)Combines with innate Electricity to create Viral + Electricity damage. Electricity is the element that triggers Melee Influence spread to groups.
-
6
Galvanized Elementalist (or Melee Elementalist)Community's top pick. Scales both status chance and status damage heavily. Do not skip this.
-
7
Primed Reach (or Reach)Extends the dagger's 1.8m range. Without this, Influence procs require uncomfortably close range.
-
8
Berserker Fury (or attack speed mod)Faster attack speed means faster status procs and more frequent Influence triggers. Swap based on Arcane choice.
This Arcane is non-negotiable. Innate Electricity + high status chance = Electricity procs spread to nearby groups on every hit. Hit 3 times quickly and the Influence chain reaction clears the room. Without it, Rumblejack is just a short-range dagger.
Exilus and Arcane Slots
- Exilus: Tennokai (heavy attack efficiency) or a QoL mod for energy/healing
- Arcane: Arcane Strike (attack speed) or Arcane Fury - swap based on whether you're running Berserker Fury in the mod slots
Forma Requirement
2-3 forma to match polarities and fit the full mod set. Always test in Simulacrum before committing forma.
Gas Build (Infested / Techrot Content)
- Heat + Electricity = Gas damage type
- Gas clouds combined with Melee Influence create persistent AoE that shreds Infested crowds
- Consider higher attack speed mods since Gas clouds tick over time
- Especially effective against Techrot enemy types
Key Decision Points
| Decision | When to Choose |
|---|---|
| Viral + Electricity | Default for most Steel Path content. Health scaling + Electricity triggers Influence on almost every faction. |
| Gas + Electricity | Infested and Techrot missions. Gas clouds + Influence persist and keep ticking, great for dense enemy spawns. |
| Pure Electricity | Swap all elements for maximum Electricity chain CC. Less raw damage but very strong crowd control. Best with specific frames. |
| Argonak Amalgam Combo | High-level Grineer content. Argonak's Amalgam mod strips armor on dagger hits, then Influence spreads the strip to groups. Pair Rumblejack with Argonak as primary. |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Building for crit instead of status. Rumblejack's identity is status-driven. Crit builds miss the entire Melee Influence synergy and produce mediocre results.
- Skipping the Reach mod. At 1.8m base range, daggers feel terrible without Primed Reach. Influence procs require being dangerously close to packs without it.
- Leaving out Weeping Wounds or Elementalist. Status chance and status damage scaling are the entire foundation. These two mods are not optional for this build to function.
- Not testing the 3-hit combo loop first. Before adjusting the build, land 3 quick hits and observe the Influence chain. If it's not clearing nearby enemies, check your Electricity element is actually on the weapon.
- Selling it after New War. Many players report regretting selling the Rumblejack from the quest. It requires specific modding to shine but is genuinely strong once set up.
