OSRS Mad Angel Boss Guide
Survive the Mad Angel's three specials with proper prayer timing, shadow steps, and charge dodges. Convert successful mechanics into guaranteed max hits for fast, consistent kills.
The Mad Angel is a mid-game boss with three special attacks that require precise timing. Successfully countering each special grants guaranteed max hits, which is your main DPS boost. The fight feels similar to Sol Heredit prayer timing or Scurrius-level difficulty. Master the prayer flick, shadow steps, and charge dodges, and kills become reliable and fast.
Gear and Setup
Multi-hit weapons only get the guaranteed max on the first hitsplat. For special windows, consider switching to a single-hit high-damage weapon like Zombie Axe to maximize the reward from successful mechanics.
Step-by-Step Fight
-
Enter and start attacking under Protect from Melee
Keep DPS up between specials. Chip damage still occurs through prayer, so don't let your HP drop too low. The boss is not a big money-maker, so gear for kill speed and reliability over risk.
-
Lightning / Magic Attack (blue glow, wings spread)
Switch to Protect from Magic at the correct timing, when wings are fully back and just before the bolt lands. Correct timing nullifies damage and grants up to 3 guaranteed max hits. Set quick prayers and 1-tick flick to keep the overhead active while still getting the max-hit reward.
DangerIn enrage, the magic attack goes from single to triple. The timing window per hit stays the same, but missing one hurts. The final enrage mage can hit ~31.
-
Shadow / Exploding Light (glowing orb on floor)
A shadow appears on the floor. Step on the indicated tile three times to volley and nullify the attack. Missing the shadow tiles means taking full AoE floor damage.
-
Charge / Diagonal Sweep (directional shockwaves)
She winds up and releases shockwaves, often multiple times in a row. Run through the boss to the opposite side. For a faster 1-tick move, go to her non-sword side instead of a 2-tick run-through. Stay just behind her and keep attacking between waves. Successful dodges can grant accuracy or max-hit opportunities.
-
Enrage Phase (below 50% HP)
Specials become faster and more dangerous. She may chain all three at the start of enrage. Prioritize perfect prayer and positioning. Chip damage makes low-HP camping riskier, so keep your health topped up. Repeat the mechanics loop until she dies.
Key Decision Points
-
Prayer timing vs camping
Always time the mage switch. Camping Protect from Magic loses the max-hit reward and can still take damage. 1-tick flicking with quick prayers is the high-skill solution.
-
Weapon choice during specials
Switch to a single-hit high-damage weapon for guaranteed max windows. Multi-hit weapons only benefit the first splat, wasting the bonus on subsequent hits.
-
Positioning on charge
Full run-through works, but moving to her non-sword side is faster and safer. Saves a tick and reduces risk of catching a shockwave.
-
Mid-game vs end-game gear
Void + Zombie Axe or Blood Moon sets achieve solid times around 1:20. Full BiS crush pushes toward 50-second kills. Scale your gear to what you have available.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Camping Protect from Magic instead of timing the switch (misses max hits and can still take damage)
- Missing the shadow tiles (takes full AoE floor damage)
- Standing still or on the wrong side during charge/sweep (gets hit by shockwaves)
- Using magic or non-crush styles (poor performance against this boss)
- Ignoring enrage speed-up and getting caught by the triple mage or faster specials
- Over-relying on multi-hit weapons without accounting for only the first splat getting the guaranteed max
- Treating the fight as fully AFK. Chip damage and specials punish inattention.
