Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault Shop and Dungeon Interlock
The dungeon manufactures relic quality, the shop multiplies that value, and the Vault tracks profit not hoarded gold. Here is the exact loop that moves the cube.
Core goal: Turn one dungeon run into a shop day that actually moves the Endless Vault gold meter, instead of coming home with a backpack full of junk that sells slow and never funds the next dungeon or shop unlock. The two sides lock together: dungeon placement decides relic quality and sale value, shop session perks and furniture multiply that value, and Vault only counts profit earned, not gold sitting in your pocket. Spend freely on gear and still progress.
How the Loop Actually Works
- 1Day in Tresna: upgrade weapons, potions, and shop, set furniture, then open shop with relics from the last run.
- 2Shop session is its own mini-run: sell, fill the perk meter, walk to the register and pick a perk.
Meter filling does nothing if you never claim it.
- 3Night or whenever you leave town: pick a dungeon path, fight, loot chests, tetris relics in the backpack so curses raise quality instead of deleting stock.
- 4Extract. Crafting mats auto-bank and do not take backpack slots. Relics do.
- 5Repeat. Vault milestones unlock new dungeons, shop floors, research, potions, and legendary relics.
Those make the next run pay more.
1Plan the Dungeon Path for Chests
- 1On the node map, bias toward chest rooms and routes that match the relic gimmick of that biome.
Extra chests beat safe combat if you can survive.
- 2Buy Tomo research (extra chests, relic quality multipliers) before vanity shop cosmetics.
Unlocked via early Vault.
2Treat the Backpack as the Real Interlock
Relics do not stack. Placement triggers biome curses. Quality and rarity are what the shop multiplies. A smaller bag of high-quality relics beats a full bag of commons.
Burn can destroy neighbors or feed quality into a relic you want to keep.
Shock once for value. Shock twice and it dies.
Placement matters most here. Isolate anything you plan to sell high.
3Bank Relics and Take Them Back In
- 1Chest storage in town is not just overflow.
Stash a haul, dive again the same cycle without opening shop, then sell a double load.
- 2Re-enter a dungeon with stored relics so another curse cycle can raise quality further.
That second trip is how people turn okay loot into Vault-tier days.
- 3Don't hoard forever. Patches have flattened stored quality before. Sell when a Vault gate is close.
4Set the Shop to Match What You Just Farmed
- 1Swap showcases toward the biome or rarity you brought.
Prestige or region cases beat default stands.
- 2Put furniture that buffs that rarity on the matching carpet.
After shop upgrades you get extra carpets. On-this-carpet furniture only hits those showcases.
- 3Decorations are cosmetic. Furniture is not. Buy furniture from the Countess after you find recipes in runs.
5Run the Shop Like a Second Roguelite
- 1Price in the Cheap or Perfect bands if you want perk progress.
Overpriced sales skip the perk engine.
- 2After sales fill the meter, interact with the register and choose the perk.
This is the most-repeated 1.0 player gotcha.
- 3Stack session perks toward your expensive relics last.
Charm, tip, and profit modifiers snowball if you sell junk first and whales last.
- 4Bigger shop means more showcases, more furniture slots, and merchant tree nodes.
It is worth the Vault gold because it shortens the next gold grind.
6Spend Gold Immediately
- 1Vault tracks earned gold. Sitting on a pile does not help the cube.
- 2Potions, weapon ranks, Tomo research, and shop floors all make the next dungeon drop better relics, which makes the next shop day bigger.
- 3Early Vault gates players mention: around 10k for Gallery plus Merchant Grimoire, around 50k for Aeolia plus shop expand plus tier-2 potions.
Later gates add legendary relics and more shop space. Exact numbers move with patches. The order stays earn, unlock dungeon or shop tool, earn more.
Key Decisions
Common Mistakes
- Leaving the perk meter full and never talking to the register. The perk is not auto-applied. You must claim it.
- Treating every relic as sacred. Curses are supposed to delete something. Use them to feed quality.
- Filling the bag with crafting junk. It already auto-stores. Relics are what take slots.
- Upgrading cosmetics before Tomo quality research and extra chests. Research compounds. Cosmetics don't.
- Hoarding legendaries across a patch. Sell into the current Vault quest. Stored quality can be flattened.
- Pricing everything Overpriced so customers buy but you never roll shop perks. Overpriced skips the perk engine.
