MECCHA CHAMELEON: Switch 2 Touch Screen Will Not Draw
On Switch 2 the touch screen responds in menus but will not paint on your character, even though a load screen mentions pen pressure. The input that actually paints is Joy-Con 2 mouse mode.
The reality: touch drawing is not the supported input on Switch 2 right now - the day-one threads are explicit that "touch screen works but not for drawing." Stop tapping the screen and switch to Joy-Con 2 mouse mode, which players confirm actually paints.
1Paint With Joy-Con 2 Mouse Mode
-
1
Detach the right Joy-Con 2 and place it on a flat surface
This activates mouse mode. A bad surface makes the cursor skip - use a mouse pad or clean desk.
-
2
Enter a match and wait for the prep / paint phase
Painting is only available before seekers are released. Once the round starts, the paint tools lock.
-
3
Move the cursor with the Joy-Con mouse, paint with the R button
R in mouse mode is the input players confirmed applies paint.
-
4
Use face buttons (A/B/X/Y) for other actions
Several players wasted time pressing the buttons under the left Joy-Con because the on-screen prompts are unclear.
-
5
Cursor feels glued or tiny strokes do nothing? Move bigger first
Make a larger mouse movement, then paint. PC tablet users hit a similar "stuck until you move enough" issue - Switch mouse players describe needing to relearn stroke size.
2Your Options, Ranked by What Works
Common Mistakes
- Trusting the pen-pressure line on the load screen. Players saw that text and still could not paint with touch or a pen.
- Using old 3DS or Wii U styli. They are not the input the game is reading.
- Looking for paint on the buttons under the left Joy-Con. The working paint input is R in mouse mode.
- Trying to paint after the round starts. Paint tools lock once seekers are released - paint during the prep phase.
- Expecting touch drawing at launch. It is not implemented for drawing on Switch 2 - mouse mode is the intended path.
